Hi----My cousin,who has lived in Mendota all of her life, tells me that,at one time, there were 2 Catholic churches in Mendota, Ill-----St.Joseph's (which was mostly for the German population) and St. Mary's (which had mostly Irish people) It was changed many years ago to have only 1 Catholic Church, called Holy Cross. I think that Holy Cross was built in the late 1930s or early 1940s. She said that there is a book on the history of Holy Cross that covers this.
