Hi, RE: Cemeteries Old St. Stephen's cemetery in Streator was the Slovak Catholic cemetery until 1940. The only records are the tombstone records done by the Guild. This is the cemetery for the oldest Slovak Catholic church in the US, and they use the Guild's list. One of my relatives put in a stone a few years ago. She could not find exactly where her relative was buried, so, she put the marker by the fence where someone thought the grave was. St. Anthony's in Streator seems to be fairly accurate. Or else, I have been lucky and found every grave that I looked for. Even Riverview had a few recent years missing, until the Guild published that cemetery. All depends on the person in charge. The Hart's are doing a great job. Riverview and St. Mary's. I have a 10 page obituary list from the Streator paper covering the years 1872 - 1900. The obituaries say the people were buried in Riverview, Riverside or Catholic cemetery. We can't find the graves. Sometimes Riverside meant Riverview, sometimes it meant St. Mary's. We even have later obituaries that stated Riverview and still cannot find them in the records. Lostlands. This cemetery is difficult. You may know that you have the correct stone, but the death year on the stone is off by a year or two from the obituary year. And, it is not just one section or one family. And, it is always just a year or two off, so close... Thanks to everybody for letting me vent my frustrations, have to get back to my obituary list. As a lady told me regarding Old St. Stephen's: "Well, everybody knows where their family is buried." Joanie [email protected] wrote: > > Hi Joanie, > > Thanks for the Gretencord information.
