Heenanville farm Ottawa Illinois Friday, June 23, 1911 James Redman Killed ------------------- Wealthy Grand Ridge Farmer Met Death While Uploading Thresher While assisting in unloading a threshing machine at Grand Ridge last Friday morning, James Redman, a wealthy farmer of that vicinity was instantly killed at about 11:30 o¹clock. A tackle that was used in letting the machine down from the flat car upon which it was loaded gave way in some manner and the machine, which was exceptionally heavy was given such a momentum that James Redman, who was guiding it with the tounge, was thrown to the ground. His arm was caught in the front wheel and before he could get out of the way the wheel was upon his head, where it stopped. It was necessary for the men to move the machine before he could be released. His skull was badly crushed and he died about fifteen minutes afterwards. The accident was witnessed by William Redman, his brother, and Roy Gill, but it was done so quickly that neither could do anything in time to save Redman¹s life. Dr. A. G. Millard was summoned and arrived a few minutes after Redman died. An inquest was held Friday afternoon and a verdict given in accordance with the facts. James Redman had been a resident of the vacinity of Grand Ridge a greater portion of his life, and this Spring he purchased a home in the village and was preparing to move into it and retire to private life.
