Greetings from Streator ...from the Streator Daily Free Press Monday October 26, 1903 JOHN Ward died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Belle Baker, in Chicago, Sunday afternoon after a long illness, from asthma... Mr. Ward was born at Old Hetten, Durham county, England, about 70 years ago. came to US nearly fifty years ago first settling Pennsylvania. came west about 30 years ago. was one of the splendid force of English and Scotch miners first employed in No. 1 shaft in this city. four years ago his health failed and he sold his property here and .. went to Chicago. survived by his wife, one daughter, and three sons, the later being J. E. Ward of Streator, J. Ward of Cornell, and W. H. Ward of Galesburg. He also leaves two brothers, John G. Ward of Streator and Robert Ward of Pennsylvania. The next day the notices for services had his name as Joseph Ward, Sr. ..taken to the home of his son, Joseph 903 east Charles street. Rev. McCaughty of the Presbyterian church officiated. interment in Riverwood cemetery. (Riverview)
