    1. Re: [ILLASALLE] Cost of a Marriage Cert

    3. I would strongly suggest that instead of contacting the LaSalle County Clerk for a certified copy of the marriage license you contact the LaSalle County Genealogy Guild! I believe the county cost for a search (which entitles you to a copy IF found) is Fourteen Dollars. They will conduct a search a few years either way for the one document you requested and that is it! Now contacting the LaSalle County Genealogy Guild with a donation will net you not only the identical document minus the county seal - but if you request additional info. on the family - you'll find a treasure trove of information there. The year you are requesting will not include the marriage application so the info. will be very limited as to the bride, groom and witness names period usually. After 1877 the applications are with the marriage certificate. If the marriage took place in the Ottawa area there is a chance a write up in the local paper took place and the Guild has copied and indexed the marriage write ups for the Ottawa paper. The address to contact the Guild is found here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~illcgg/ A listing of the holdings of the Guild can be found at this page - along with an online searchable database of obituaries available and county probate records (click the links at the top of tihs page) http://www.lscgg.org/ Also certain church records are found there; the cemetery records have transcribed; census records; county history books have been indexed plus info. to other people researching the same family name are on file there too.
