    3. Hi, Jane-- I looked at the John and Mary household in Troy Grove in the 1870 census. It's odd that I couldn't get a direct hit on Mary or John--had to search for Jane. Neither Mary nor John BOSS is listed in the 1880 census in Illinois, so they either died or moved. If Mary died in LaSalle Cty her will would be on file at the courthouse in Ottawa. I went to the LaSalle Genealogy Guild, which has a searchable Probates list (see http://www.lscgg.org/ and click on Probates at the top), and entered Boss and only one record came up for a Mr. BOSSERMAN. There also no obituaries for any Bosses on file at the Guild. I also did a statewide search on Boss in the pre-1916 death index and found some John Bosses, but none seemed to fit. (I do realize that LaSalle Cty is not included in this index.) Finally, neither John nor Mary Boss appear in *any* states in the FamilySearch 1880 census records, thus it *is* likely they died (or completely left the country) between 1870 and 1880. I would suggest asking the list for a search on folks buried in cemeteries near Troy Grove township. These include CRANDALL, MEINHARDT, METHODIST EPISCOPAL, OLD LUTHERAN AKA ZORN, ST. PETER AND PAUL, TROY GROVE CITY PARK MEMORIAL, TROY GROVE MEINHARDT AKA WELCH, WELCH AKA MEINHARDT, and ZORN AKA OLD LUTHERAN, plus a few "UNKNOWN" cemeteries in different sections. All these come from one of the Guild pages at http://www.lscgg.org/home/lscgg02c.html. There is an e-mail contact at the Guild's main page. Sorry, this was all I could determine for now. If something else comes to me, I'll send more. She was born in Ireland in ca 1812 and in 1870 was caring for a niece, Jane Riley (on same census). Is it possible to locate her will? I know she had one because in it she repaid her brother money he'd given her husband. Think husband, John Boss, also bn Ireland may have pre-deceased her, but perhaps not. Don't know when she died. I know this is a really awful job to ask anyone to do but the Jane was lost to our family for a long time and I'm trying to fill the holes for all my cousins. If you can find any clues about this woman, Mary Boss, I'll be really grateful. Thank you for offering to help. Jane Bubier

    3. Thank you so much for that. You sure are wonderfully prompt with information. I'll write to the LaSalle Gsnealogical Society for list in R.C. cemetery in Troy Grove. Perhaps the will solve the date of death. Again . Many thanks.
