    3. Why not write to IRAD instead. They charge minimally. As I have written to a few different IRADs in Illinois-some charged me nothing for a marriage certificate--some charged me 25 cents per page with a minimum charge of $1.00. I can't remember which one of these I was charged by the IRAD that serves La Salle County. This is a lot less than the Courthouse will charge you these days. Be sure to put in all the information you found in the Illinois Marriage Index. Here's the address--just add that you will be happy to pay for the cost of this marriage certificate and they will bill you separately. Also, when I have written I have asked for 2 or 3 marriage certificates and they have complied. As it is in the listing I want to request a certificate and I am writing to the La Salle County Courthouse as suggested. Does anyone know the cost of this service? On the site it says that all counties differ in costs. Has anyone had recent experience is requesting a marriage cert. Can you tell me how much for this? >Thank you, >Nana(NAY-na) RUTHERFORD Redell > > >============================== >Search Family and Local Histories for stories about your family and the >areas they lived. 3. The marriages that interest me took place in 1858 LaSalle County. What additional information might be gained from the marriage certificate for that year? 3. Bonnie, In all likelihood, not much more than what you get from the listing on the state archive. Here's a quotation from Jenan Jobst of the LaSalle County Genealogy Guild on that subject: "Prior to 1877 the marriage licenses only give the name of the bride and groom, the date of the license and the date of the marriage and who married them. If one of them was under age there may be an additional piece of paper with the parents permission on it. After 1877 the licenses usually give a lot of information on them but sometimes they don't. The LaSalle county genealogy guild has copies of all these marriage licenses so don't pay $12 to the county to get a copy." (from the list, 7-23-04) I'd be curious to know whether there was a statewide edict that changed the law in 1877, and I'm guessing there was.
