Good day Tim, I know next to nothing about my g-g-grandparents, all that I do know I have already stated. I went to the L.C.G.G. in Ottawa and searched through the obits & baptismal records for any and all Nolans. The obits were quite descriptive but gave no names of family members, so that was of no help. Since my g-grandfather was born in Peoria, I have the need to go there and search for birth cert. or announcement in the paper. In the 1880 fed. census for Il. there is a family, Mathias & Esther Nolan w/ 6 children, one is 3 yr old Michael w/ a 7yr old brother named Johnny. They resided in Ripley, Il. Bond Co.. I have corresponded w/ a g-granddaughter of Michael Joseph and she believes this family to be our ancestors. I need proof. I have several sources that say John Nolan is Michael Joseph's father & one that says Sarah is his mother. If John & Sarah are the middle names of Mathias & Esther, I need to find out. The 1920 Sarah would have been born about 1836, Esther about 1837. Since no family member knows of any siblings for Michael Joseph I am trying to find a name or two to possibly tie in w/ Mathias, Esther & family, or not. I too, have searched for Sarah Whalen/Nolan at Ellis Isle., SSDI and all that Ancestry.com has to offer. 1920 Sarah was the only one to stand out. The search goes on. Make the best of your day. Tony
Hi, Tony-- Just one further suggestion: You might subscribe to the Bond County listserve and pose your query there. I've done this while tracking down the movements of one branch of my family--they settled in Peoria County, then moved to McLean Cty, then to Livingston. With one post to the Peoria list, I got responses from folks both in Peoria and McLean. Good luck. The only way is up!
