Gwen, I have studied the early Norwegian immigration. There was not much activity before 1836. If she was born here in 1835, my guess her parents came over with the Sloopers in 1825. Cleng Peerson was the one who is credited with encouraging the people from Norway to come to the United States. I'm sure there is a passenger list on the web for the passengers in 1825. There is an organized group of people who descend from the 1825 group. If you are interested, I'll try and find some more information about them. They settled in what was known as the Fox Valley Settlement (near Norway, IL and not far from LaSalle), before moving on to Leland, Koshkonong Prairie (near Madison, WI), etc. Al, not sure if I've told you or not but my great grandfather was a passenger on the Aegir/Ægir in 1837. I do have the link to that passenger list, if you don't. I have spent the afternoon trying to find a passenger list for the Ørnen - ORNEN which my great grandmother sailed on in 1844 ... so far no luck. :-( I did find the microfilm number, but I like it all typed in so I can just copy it. ;-) Gini
I found this on a page about the Sloopers: Peter C. Nelson, the youngest son, was born in Kendall, N. Y., in 1833. He moved from Illinois to Larned, Kan., where he became a farmer, and had nine children. One of his daughters, Carrie Nelson, whose portrait and biographical data appear elsewhere in this volume, is the wife of Ex-Judge Henry W. Johnson, of Ottawa, Ill. Another daughter is married to Banker J. A. Quam, of Sheridan, Ill. Wonder if the Henry W. is the father of 'your' Henry. Karen ... here we go again ... there are Nelson's mentioned. ;-) Gini
