Hi, Tony-- I sincerely doubt that hospital records would be available for viewing. (I'd be happy to know if anyone knows otherwise.) I pursued a few standard avenues of research: 1. For starters, I looked to see the marriage of John and Sarah in the statewide marriage index, http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/marriage.html, and I couldn't find it. 2. If you search the 1916-1950 Illinois death index, http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/GenealogyMWeb/idphdeathsrch.html, you'll find several Sarah Nolans, but they are mostly in the Chicago area. This really doesn't signify much. Deaths were recorded in the county where the person died. Sarah could have been in another hospital in Cook County when she died. 3. When did your g-g-grandfather die? I found a John Nolan who died in Streator: NOLAN JOHN JR M/W UNK 4500247 1929-10-25 LA SALLE STREATOR I would *hazard* a guess that this fellow may be the offspring of Sarah Nolan, as Sarah was listed as a widow if I made out the census record correctly. There is probably an obituary for this John Nolan in the Streator newspaper, which is available on microfilm at the Streator library. Obits typically contain lots of information. If you can get your hands on any other names and death dates, pursue their obits. Good luck in your quest! I am just begining my search for my gggrandmother. When I acquired my ggrandfather's death cert. I found that his mothers name was listed as unk., father is John Nolan. A new found 2nd cousin told me that John and Sarah Whalen Nolan both came from Dublin, Ire.. My ggrandfather, Michael Joseph was b. in Peoria, 1877. Something took him to Ottawa where he married Margaret McCarthy in 1901. Several of their children, my grandfather included, were born in Oglesby. There are ties to LaSalle Co.. The 1920 Sarah Nolan would have been about 41 yrs old in 1877, not an unheard of age to give birth I'm sure, also she is from Ire.. A place to start. "New" relatives that I have corresponded with as well as those in the area have no knowledge of siblings for Michael Joseph. The ultimate puzzle. I like it. So, now you know where I'm at. If they exist, would hospital records be accessible for viewing? Thank you for your interest. Tony
