I became interested in harvesting ice because I was researching a Schurman family. C. R. Schurman owned Home Ice Co. and part of his adv. had Spring Lake Ice. Schruman came to Streator in 1894 and bought an existing Ice business. He died in 1911, but his sons carried on the business until late 20's or early 30's. About that time a lot of ice dealers either changed to "Ice & Fuel" or Ice Cream or disappeared. Scheidt Ice & Fuel was in business in the 1950's. HORSE DRAWN milk wagons -- 1947 might have been the last year?? I will check on that. We have a newspaper article about the last wagon.
