    2. Joan: The East Mackey school was at the southwest corner of #23 and Richard's Road. I believe it folded in the 20's. In Memoirs of Heenanville, it mentioned that my dad and aunt transferred from the East Mackey School to the West Mackey School at some point. Bruce

    3. Hi Colette, I saw the Howell name and this is a long shot. I have a Constance Howell who married my uncle Harold Askevold in 1942 that I can not find any data on. Constance (Connie) was born 1931 and passed away in New Hampshire. I am not sure where Connie was born but I have family photos of the LaSalle area with her in them. Any of this ring a bell ? I have to get their family info. added to the computer and I'll send you the entire genealogy of the Chritton side here. His sister, Esther Tombaugh Spreen, compiled the family genealogy. Margaret

    2. Thank you The Tourism group is working on a presentation about Tombaugh. They are talking about a display in the Library. Wonder if those books are still in the "basement." Thanks again for the site. I will pass it on to the Tourism group. 2. I heard the Koontz school is still "standing." Before you get to the Kangley turnoff, on the north side of the road, there is a horse pasture. Next to the large barn is supposed to be the old school. They made the door bigger to get equipment in. I wonder if it is true. La Salle Co. has a one room school, but if this is the building is the Koontz school, it would be nice if it could be saved. Of course, I have always wanted an outhouse for the Streator museum. 3. Janet, That's pretty cool to hear from you and hear your memories. I was born in 1951 and as a kid was fascinated by astronomy and went to see Clyde give a presentation at the high school auditorium, He seemed like a really nice guy. I guess everyone has heard about how he made his own telescope, even ground the lenses himself. A few years back, I attended the combination Tombaugh reunion and dedication of part of Main Street as Clyde Tombaugh Drive. I talked with one of the Tombaughs of my own generation, and she said the surname was unique--that it was originally "Tone-bach" or maybe Tonbach with the umlaut over the O, but an Ellis Island official changed the spelling. Clyde's wife, Patsy, was a very pleasant person. Clyde seemed like a guy who really enjoyed life and teaching, and I believe that's how she described him. She encouraged me to study science and so on, and she appreciated my interest in geography because she loved geography also. How did she encourage you? She talked to me about what I had seen in the telescope the night before, and she was just a marvelous person, a real teacher
