    3. You can contact the University holding the records and perhaps get a copy of the marriage record. I have been able to get a copy of several family marriage records from Northern Illinois University, Illinois Regional Archives in DeKlab. Some of the records have a wealth of information including parents of bride and groom and birthplace each.. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gwen B" <gwenb@wccta.net> To: <ILLASALL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 09, 2005 3:48 AM Subject: Re: [ILLASALLE] RE: Where is Henry Johnson > Thanks so much. 3. Can not answer that question but if you are living close to a Mormon Family History Library you could rent a film and possible find out that information. The film number I would order would be 1710810 which is for LaSalle Co Marriage Registers for your period of time and it might include the names you are interested in. I did check with the 1860 Census on Ancestory.com and found them living next door to another Olson that could be Ellen's brother. 3. Gwen, I'm not sure of the exact number of censuses, though I expect there was one every ten years after a certain point, so I would look for the 1850 or 1840 census. The 1850 census for LaSalle County is also available in text form at http://ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/il/lasalle/1850/. I would encourage you to hunt around in the files there. You can find all the Johnsons by going into the indx-i-k.txt file. Then you should find a cross-reference to the family listing. For example: Pg# Ln# Last Name First Name Age Birth Place Filename 324A 22 Johnson Henry 29 Norway pg0321b.txt Then you back out of the index file and go to the page number, and you click on the file with the page number. Use the Find function of your browser to find Johnson, and you'll see there's a Johnson family in Mission Township (actually a bunch of Johnsons). I believe the above Henry Johnson is the only one in the index, and of course the age doesn't match, but you might try the same exercise with Ellen Olson. Good luck! 3. Gwen, In 1860, 25-year-old Henry Johnson and his 21-year-old wife Ellen were living with the Mayer (?) family in Mission Township. Henry was working as a farm laborer, and both he and Ellen were born in Norway. This information comes from HeritageQuest. The next step would be to find an earlier census that would show a Johnson family with Henry as a member. Good luck! 2. Of all places, the Kansas State Historical Society has a large number of Illinois county histories on microfilm which can be obtained through interlibrary loans. Apparently, a grant gave them the money to put the collection together. I do not have the URL, but a simple full-text search of "Kansas State Historical Society Illinois counties" will bring it up. I have obtained a number of such histories from them.

    3. Michael, Congratulations to you and a tip of the hat to Margaret and Indiana. Inspired by Mr. Mackey, I did a Google on the title and discovered that Nancy Piper has transcribed part of the book and has it online: http://www.piperspages.com/LaSalle/1886History/1886Index.html. She has lots of other info on LaSalle County on her main page too. It'd be great if all these histories were online. Best wishes, Tim -----Original Message----- From: M.E. I actually have tried to get the book through my library options but to no avail. My only other option has been the FHL in SLC, but I can not justify a 300 mile trip at this time, so I will patiently wait until opportunity presents itself. Of course the research material I am working from does not offer anything but the reference, no substance. Such is the rough luck at times.
