Yes Summit View is in the city of Ottawa on the south side of the river. I think when it was platted it was just in South Ottawa Township but think that portion is now within the city limits I believe. It is right on Route 23 across from the water tower - so you can't miss it.
Hi, I have Kilgores buried in Summit View Cemetery. Is Summit View Cem in Ottawa, if not where is it? I checked the link on the LaSalle County GenWeb site and it only says it is in South Ottawa township. Jean in Indiana

This is getting interesting... In 1860, Joseph P. Cleal, a babe is living with his parents, George and Harriet Cleal in Downers Grove. In 1870, Joseph P., is a ten year old, living in Chicago, his parents, George and Harriet. PLUS a builder, aged 42, named Joseph Racy/Pacy? Now ... In 1880 George Cleal, a widower? is living with Elizabeth and his mother in Allen Twp. At the same time, Joseph Pacy Cleal is a "step-son" living with Joseph Pacy, a 52 year old contractor in Chicago. Joseph's 42 year old wife is named Harriet. Delilah and Hugh are with Harriet and Joseph Pacy. I think that the Elizabeth living with George might be his dau?? Of course, Harriet could have died and Harriet & Joseph could be taking care of the children. ...from 1886 History of La Salle Co, volume 2, pages 38-39 (note: this does not mention a wife & children) born in England Aug. 27, 1835. came to US in 1852 with parents, Henry and Charlotte Pickett Cleal. Lost two siblings crossing, David aged 5, and Elizabeth, aged 9 months...one year in DuPage Co., moved to Cook Co. moved to LaSalle Co. Feb. 1861. Aug. 15, 1862 enlisted in 127th Ill. Inf. Co. H. ..After the war, lived in Chicago til Dec. 1869, to La Salle Co. ..returned to Chicago 1871, inspector of buildings put up by the shelter committee...returned again to La Salle Co. in fall of 1872. Owns 160 acres of land, mother living, father dead(1886), brother of Simeon. There was a Simeon Cleal, born Feb. 18, 1843 in Middlesex County England who lived in Allen Township. Simeon married Julia E. Tremper, and I did some research for the Tremper family. Simeon and Julia did not have children. Simeon did have a brother George, who was married to a Harriet Pacy? Their parents were Henry Cleal (1809 - 1974) and Charlotte Pickett (1813 - 1902) They are buried in Allen Twp. Cemetery. Might have lived in Cook Co. bet 1852 - 1860. I think they had seven children. One son, Charles fought for the South in the Civil War, Simeon fought for the North, and was injured. Apparently, that is why he could not have children. I got some of the family information from the Ransom, Allen Twp., Centennial book, but there are errors in that book. As I said, I was researching the Tremper's, so I did not pay too much attention to the Cleal's. Let me know if this is the correct family. My gg-grandfather Charles McCarthy b. Aug. 1853, d. 12/19/1923 was a coal miner and I am told a bar owner in Oglesby. At this time I would like to learn of any knowledge concerning his ownership of the bar, if that is possible. Thank you. Tony
Sure Jodi, They worked at Matthiessen and Hegeler Zinc Company in LaSalle... It's now a Superfund site... If you'd like the webpage that states this, it's : _http://www.epa.gov/fedrgstr/EPA-PEST/2003/September/Day-29/p24406.htm_ (http://www.epa.gov/fedrgstr/EPA-PEST/2003/September/Day-29/p24406.htm) Go about two thirds down the page and it's listed as third on the National Priorities list. Les, If it's true that the place of employment for these males was indeed "not" a true zinc mine, could you clarify for others where they actually DID work and why they considered it a "zinc"mine" ?
