    3. Why not write to IRAD instead. They charge minimally. As I have written to a few different IRADs in Illinois-some charged me nothing for a marriage certificate--some charged me 25 cents per page with a minimum charge of $1.00. I can't remember which one of these I was charged by the IRAD that serves La Salle County. This is a lot less than the Courthouse will charge you these days. Be sure to put in all the information you found in the Illinois Marriage Index. Here's the address--just add that you will be happy to pay for the cost of this marriage certificate and they will bill you separately. Also, when I have written I have asked for 2 or 3 marriage certificates and they have complied. Illinois Regional Archive Depository C/O Regional History Center Founders Memorial Library Room 400 Northern Illinois University DeKalb, IL 60115 Note a marriage in 1863 may not have parental information. Joan nredell wrote: >I am new to the list and recently found in the IL marriage list my ancestor who married in 1863. As it is in the listing I want to request a certificate and I am writing to the La Salle County Courthouse as suggested. Does anyone know the cost of this service? On the site it says that all counties differ in costs. Has anyone had recent experience is requesting a marriage cert. Can you tell me how much for this? >Thank you, >Nana(NAY-na) RUTHERFORD Redell > > >============================== >Search Family and Local Histories for stories about your family and the >areas they lived. 2. I don't know why her obit was in the paper. Andrew Hayer, who died in 1899 and Ellen, his wife, who died in 1925 did not have an obit in the Streator paper. Veterans usually rated an obituary. I remember reading that the Streator newspapermen were complaining that county legal notices were not being placed in the local Streator papers. Perhaps putting in county wide obituaries was their way of expanding their readership area. It is kind of a "hit or miss" thing. 2. Original message: >Andrew Hayer and Ellen Daniels obtained a marriage license on Sept. 26, 1876. Did he have two wives??> Like other ethnic groups, Scandanavians often Americanized their names after they immigrated. I wonder if Olean either changed her name to Ellen, and then the census taker misunderstood because of the accent of the informant. Or did the census taker simply misunderstand Olean? Olean--Ellen--Helen: just a guess. 3. Hi Joanie Data is accumulating but questions remain about James SEXTON's children and step-children. Three appear only in 1850 census. Mysteriously, two others are not in 1850 census. Change of given name has occurred to me but the names are not even close. Elizabeth H. and Eliza vs. Lucy Ann and Sarah Ann. James SEXTON and Elizabeth RUMBLE were married 3 June 1842 in Canada, moved to LaSalle Co. Illinois about 1848. There are no records in Canada of children. CENSUS 1850, Bruce Twp. LaSalle shows James Sexton 36 Brickmason England Elizabeth Sexton 30 England Elizabeth H. Sexton 12 Canada Eliza Sexton 7 Canada John Sexton 2 Illinois Edwin Carter 14 NY [Elizabeth H. appears to be James Sexton's step-daughter. No further record found of Elizabeth H., Eliza and John] CENSUS 1860 Bruce twp LaSalle, James Sexton is with second wife Martha Pool and a boy Wm McCormack age 8 -see extract from will below. There is no sign of the three children from 1850 CEMETERY In January, you sent me cemetery listings in "North" Emery Green Cemetery for the following James Sexton di May 24, 1875, aged 63 years. Elizabeth, his wife, died Nov. 2 1852, aged 31 years Martha, died November 11, 1910 (James Sexton m Martha Pool married 1858) [Question - What became of Elizabeth H., Eliza and John?] THE WILL - relevant part of James Sexton's will reads " To my daughter Sarah F. Bardwell, Lucy Ann Hart, and William McCormack except Sarah F. Bardwell to have five (500) hundred dollars more than Lucy Ann Hart and William McCormack and further William McCormack is to farm the land......" [introduction of daughter Sarah and step-daughter Lucy... no mention of the other three children] LUCY ANN SEXTON m. Lewis HART 09/26/1858 LaSalle Co. 1870, 1880 & 1900 census and cemetery ( Stanwood Iowa) records show Lucy Ann born Ontario Canada 23 Feb1840. Per 1900 census Lucy Ann arrived in US 1848. SARAH SEXTON m. Nelson BARDWELL 04/25/1858 Livingston Co. 1860 & 1880 census shows Sarah born Canada 1844 [Question - Where were these two girls when 1850 Census was taken?] Any suggestion will be gratefully received.
