    3. If they were Polish, they were possibly members of St. Hyacinth's in LaSalle, the records of which were copied a couple years ago by Jean Wallace and some others, and indexed , I think, by Amy. There might be church records of a baptism or burial. These records are at the Guild. 2. I don't have Ancestry but that's Delos. He was postmaster of the LaSalle Post Office and died in 1906. His wife was Eliza. Delos was born in New York, Hi Cindy. Are you absolutely certain of the 1906 death of Delos? If so, do you have a theory regarding the following listing from the 1910 census? Delos Robinson Mission Twp, LaSalle County, Illinois T624_301, part 1, page 22B Robinson, Delos, head, male, white, 75 years old, married - 2 times, this marriage - 43 years, born NY, father - NY, mother - NY, occupation - own income. ------------, Eliza, wife, female, white, 72 years old, married - 2 times, this marriage - 43 years, 3 children born/1 currently living, born NY, father - NY, mother - NY Wortman, George, boarder, male, white, 77, single, Illinois, New York, New York, occupation - Mason & Bricklayer It should be noted that they are listed as family 106 along with a separate head of household: Nancy C. Jacobs, age 79, born Ohio, Virginia, Virginia and her daughter Winefred J., Winefred's husband and children. Looking backwards to the 1900, they are also in Mission Twp, although Delos is listed in the Ancestry index as "Delor" rather than Delos. The ages of Delos and Eliza match the 1910 listing (65 and 62) and Eliza's info states she had 3 children born and 1 living, which also matches the 1910 listing, as does the birth information for each of them. It appears that child is Bertha May, who is listed in their household. Also, if I'm reading the 1880 correctly, the George Wortman listed in the 1910 may also be related to the Robinson family. In the 1880 household, there is a Phebe Wortman, a 49 year old widow, listed as a Sister-in-law to the head of household (Delos Robinson). Just a few more things for you to consider. Shelly

    1. RE: [ILLASALLE] Mary Boss Will
    2. Tim Bryant
    3. Hi, Jane-- I looked at the John and Mary household in Troy Grove in the 1870 census. It's odd that I couldn't get a direct hit on Mary or John--had to search for Jane. Neither Mary nor John BOSS is listed in the 1880 census in Illinois, so they either died or moved. If Mary died in LaSalle Cty her will would be on file at the courthouse in Ottawa. I went to the LaSalle Genealogy Guild, which has a searchable Probates list (see http://www.lscgg.org/ and click on Probates at the top), and entered Boss and only one record came up for a Mr. BOSSERMAN. There also no obituaries for any Bosses on file at the Guild. I also did a statewide search on Boss in the pre-1916 death index and found some John Bosses, but none seemed to fit. (I do realize that LaSalle Cty is not included in this index.) Finally, neither John nor Mary Boss appear in *any* states in the FamilySearch 1880 census records, thus it *is* likely they died (or completely left the country) between 1870 and 1880. I would suggest asking the list for a search on folks buried in cemeteries near Troy Grove township. These include CRANDALL, MEINHARDT, METHODIST EPISCOPAL, OLD LUTHERAN AKA ZORN, ST. PETER AND PAUL, TROY GROVE CITY PARK MEMORIAL, TROY GROVE MEINHARDT AKA WELCH, WELCH AKA MEINHARDT, and ZORN AKA OLD LUTHERAN, plus a few "UNKNOWN" cemeteries in different sections. All these come from one of the Guild pages at http://www.lscgg.org/home/lscgg02c.html. There is an e-mail contact at the Guild's main page. Sorry, this was all I could determine for now. If something else comes to me, I'll send more. 3. Tim and Cindy, Not unless you go there and view the file in person. The National Archives personel will not look it up just to tell you how many pages there are (unless you have a friend who works there and will do it on their lunch hour). They "do not have time" as "our staff is overloaded with requests" for file infomation. This was the shortened reply when asked if they could tell you how many pages were in a pension file before it was ordered. 1. RE: [ILLASALLE] Costs of information, and a bit on the Soldiers and Sailors site
    2. Tim Bryant
    3. Cindy, Sorry--this question slipped through the Net yesterday. Yes, I had forgotten about the fee for records requested by folks from out of state. I believe your reading is correct. Also, I was just dinking around on the National Archives site and found a link to the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors site at http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/index.html. Maybe you've already done this with Delos. I entered the details for him, and up pops his basic record and a summary of the regimental history. You can get all the regimental histories from the Illinois Civil War site, but you have to download a big file. At Soldiers and Sailors, you get just the regiment for the person you're looking for. In this case: "Organized at Pontiac and mustered in September 8, 1862. Moved to Louisville, Ky., September 22. . . . [movements and battles with links to details over the next three years, culminating with "Occupation of Raleigh April 14"]. Delos participated in Sherman's March to the Sea, and was mustered out at Washington, D.C, in June 8, 1865. It's interesting to see the unit was organized at Pontiac. That may account for the listing of Residence as Livingston County on his state record. Am I reading the Ill. State Archives correctly? Because I'm not a resident of Ill. the fee for 2 uncertified muster roll papers are $10.00? I'd be happy to send for them if I'm reading that correctly. For some reason I can't get into the site to order online but I can just send for them. Cindy
