HELLO, MY NAME IS DIANE JONES AND I AM RESEARCHING THE O'NEIL/FOGLER LINEAGE. THEY LIVED IN STREATOR, LA SALLE COUNTY, ILL. I AM TRYING TO FIND OBITS AND CEMETERY INFO FOR JULIA ANN FOGLER AND FOUR OF HER CHILDREN WHO DIED FROM TRICHINOSIS POISONING IN FEBRUARY 1879. HER HUSBAND WAS LEWIS FOGLER AND HER FATHER WAS THE INFAMOUS BARNEY O'NEIL WHO WAS ELECTED JUSTICE OF PEACE TWICE. ANY INFO ON THE CEMETERIES AND FAMILY FACTS WOULD REALLY BE APPRECIATED. I AM PLANNING A TRIP TO ILL IN JULY AND WANT TO GO TO THE CEMETERIES. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME, DIANE JONES

Jenan, Did the Germans also have a Lutheran cemetery in Peru? I'm not sure if this family was Catholic or Lutheran, but I am looking for information on a child who was killed in a train accident and I would guess it would have been in the 1860-1870 range in Peru because the family arrived in the US in 1851 from Germany. She would have been the daughter of my great -great grandparents Christopher and Louisa (Bresenmeister) Vahldieck. Their name is misspelled in the 1860 census in Peru as Chris Valdick, so it may not be the correct spelling. The family moved to Long Point, IL in 1871 but I read in the Livingston County Biographies book that there was a daughter who died at age 8 in a train accident in Peru and a son who died in infancy and I've never been able to find proof. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Marguerite Vahldieck -----Original Message----- From: jenanj@ivnet.com To: ILLASALL-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Wed, 18 May 2005 08:40:15 -0500 Subject: Re: [ILLASALLE] Cemetery It would probably be St. Joseph's cemetery in Peru which is where the German Catholics went. It would probably be St. Joseph's cemetery in Peru which is where the German Catholics went. The Genealogy Guild has the records from that cemetery. Hi, Janet: From the Illinois State Marriage Index, 1763-1900, there is this unusual list of two marriages: BRIGGS, DANIEL LIBBY, SARAH 09/19/1847 A / 999 LA SALLE BRIGGS, DANIEL LIBBY, SARAH 09/29/1847 939/ FINK COOK My suggestion is to request a copy of the LaSalle Cty marriage license from the LaSalle County Genealogy Guild at http://www.lscgg.org/. There is a small fee associated with the request. You should be forewarned that a marriage license from 1847 would not likely include any genealogical information unless the bride were underage and required permission from her parents to marry. However, it *would* give you proof of your g-g-grandfather's marriage. Best wishes, Tim in Champaign-Urbana -----Original Message----- From: jgibbs [mailto:jgibbs@iowatelecom.net] Sent: Sunday, May 15, 2005 7:40 PM To: ILLASALL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ILLASALLE] Briggs-Libby Was wondering if anyone had any information on a marriage between Daniel Briggs and Sarah Libby, 19 Sep, 1847 in LaSalle Cty. Hello - Family oral history says that William Montgomery, my great grandfather, died at Streator, La Salle Co. in the late 1870's from pneumonia after bringing in a prisoner through a snow storm. Earlier he had served as a police officer in southern Illinois and elsewhere before moving to La Salle Co. circa 1870, with wife Matilda and children. Any suggestions for developing information re William's residence, service, and death would be much appreciated. Are there city or county directories, and/or local newspaper records of the time? Does the Streator Public Library have an e-mail address for queries? T. Davis
Hello: In researching my mother's family, she remembers an Aunt Callie who we've found out was Caroline (Harr) Schreiner. A few years ago, we visited LaSalle and found the markers for Caroline Schreiner (1866-1947) and her daughter Helen (1884-1942). I believe there was also a son, Will Schreiner. Can anyone tell me where I might find obituaries or other information on this family? I believe Caroline was married to George. I am also researching the McElhenie family - some family members are buried at Oakwood Cemetery - any obituaries may contain some information. Thank you, Mary Saggio

Is there anyone out there that has access to the death certificates? I can order this film through the FHC but I'd have to wait for it's arrival and pay $3.25 for the film so if someone has access to this I'd be happy to pay $5.00 for have a scanned copy. Martha, When looking for these papers, it is very important that you request the "first" papers. The more recent the immigration - the more information you will receive. For instance, the file of someone who came in 1880 may only contain the "oath of allegiance" - whereas, if they came in 1920 or so, it would contain an oath, a declaration of intent, plus papers that were signed within weeks of immigration showing the ship that they came on and on what date they came to America... also a physical description of the person, the town that they lived in, the names of their children and ages, the name of their wife and the current address. I'm sure that I am missing some others - but you get the gist. Also, remember that women, typically didn't have these papers - only their husbands. Many a wily paid so called "research genealogist" has culled fee's from unsuspecting newbies by taking their money for a "wife" search, when they knew that there were no papers for wives. Just a heads up on that. If you fail to find what you need at the courthouse, perhaps you can contact Cynthia Richardson at _www.chicgaogenealogy.com_ (http://www.chicgaogenealogy.com) for assistance - her fee's are very reasonable and she is reputable and dependable. It wouldn't cost anything to get a price from her at the very least. Good luck to you. Genealogyangel
I would be interested in finding Naturalization records for ancestors in LaSalle and Lee counties. Does anyone do that research? I live in Colorado. Thank You. Martha, The guild is open on Mon and Sat. Someone will get back to you. They are the first choice for records because they are so cheap, if they have them. They will find whatever they can at a reasonable cost, like $10 plus copies at .25 each. By no means are all the church records there, but if a marriage cert. is found, sometimes the church can be identified, and then they can be contacted. martha <restless13@foresitewireless.com> wrote: Dear List, I could sure use some suggestions, thoughts and information for I am not familiar with this area of Illinois. Do you mean for Naturalization? I will wait for Jenan to answer that tomorrow, but I think they are at the downtown courthouse, with an index at the guild. Some years there is a lot of info, and others, just the official paper. martha <restless13@foresitewireless.com> wrote:I have one further question...where would I write for Dec.of Intent papers and other legal papers?
