Hi, According to the Sec. of States site, Leora R. Clay died Mar. 20, 1944 in Streator. Were Walter's parents Edward Hampton and Mrs. Julia Kinney? In the 1900 census Walter, Leora and Nellie are in Fairbury. And Leora had lost a child. Just wondered where that child was buried, Fairbury? Thanks for your reply. I always seem to leave something out when I post a query. In 1900 Walter and family were living in Fairbury, IL; in 1910, Walter and his family were living at 313 S. Bloomington St., Streator, IL; in 1920 he and his wife were at 211 S. Bloomington St., Streator. In 1930, he was still at 211 S. Bloomington St. in Streator. In 1930 he is listed with a 9 year old grandson and his obituary states this grandson is his son. He died on March 1, 1948. Perhaps someone can help me locate his widow's obituary or his daughter's obituary. I am curious as to why they raised their grandson. Could their daughter have died? No, because she is listed as still alive in Walter's obituary. HMMM! So many questions. And the 1930 census says that he was a candy salesman, not a cookie salesman as I previously posted. My apologies. I am presuming that the candy manufacturing plant was in Streator. Thanks in advance. Hello everyone. I am new to this list and wanted to see if anyone could do a look up for either of these names. I am particularly looking for the Walter Hampton family. Walter, according to an obit was a cookie salesman. His wife was Leora and his daughter was Nellie. The same obit said that Nellie's married name is Moots(z). There is also a son listed in the obituary named Walter and that in 1943 was living in California. I am also curious about the cookie factory that Walter worked for. I would appreciate any information about this family or the cookie factory that Walter worked for. Thanks in advance. Audrey

I'm researching the Schoch family line and have run across both a Philip G and Albert F Schoch of LaSalle Co., IL. Is there anyone out there related to these families? I would like to communicate with you if so. My other request is to anyone who may have a copy of this publication: Hoffman, U. J. History of La Salle County, Illinois Chicago: S.J. Clarke Pub. Co., 1906, 1177 pgs. I would like to have a scan of the photo on page 289 of Albert Schoch. Would someone be able to do this for me? Thanks in advance, Becky Jones
Hi List, In searching I find this 1860 Mortality listing for who I believe to be my GGGrandmother's brother Alfred COLLINS. COLLINS, Alfred G. Ottawa, age 11, m, Ohio, May, Struck by lightning, Instant. Brown, Ripley census, as follows. >> In 1850 OH, Brown, Ripley, Union >> 490-494 >> James Collins 43 M Carpenter Ohio (est YOB 1807 >> Mariah 43 f Ohio >> Prudence 18 f Ohio >> Nathaniel 17 Wool Spinner Ohio >> Nancy 15 f Ohio >> James B? 12 m Ohio >> Eliza M? 8 f Ohio >> Alferd 1 m Ohio 1860 finds James COLLINS in Ottawa, LaSalle, IL, he's 52 est yob is 1807, born Ohio and he is a carpenter, Nathaniel COLLINS 28 est yob 1831 Ohio, he is a carpenter and single. Eliza COLLINS 20 est yob 1839 Ohio, she is House Keeper and single. Mariah is not with them, nor is Alfred/Alferd, Nancy nor James the sons and dau and the wife. There is no marriage record for James to Mariah in Brown Co. OHIO, nor is there a burial found for Mariah in Brown Co., Ripley. ? is what happened to Mariah. Did she die on the way to ILL, perhaps in ILL? There is a marriage of a James COLLINS to Elizabeth BROOKBANK for Dec 23 1832 for Brown Co., OH but since Prudence is already 18 in the 1850 that can't be the right James COLLINS. Prudence is born Oct 1831 according to family records and certainly by 1832. By 1870 ILL, LaSalle census James is married to Grase (Grace (RED) and that is on IRAD), 08/16/1860 C / 1125 LA SALLE COLLINS, JAMES RED, GRACE (MRS) I know that my GGGrandmother Prudence COLLINS marries GGGrandfather Horace BECKWITH July 1, 1852 in LaSalle. I have found two siblings of Prudence nee COLLINS BECKWITH in Montana, (Nathaniel and Eliza M COLLINS) and know who they married etc. I haven't been able to locate the daughter Nancy, nor the son James so hope that someone might lend me a hand with a cemetery look up, something to see where Alfred COLLINS is buried and if there are any family members with him? I suspect, but don't know, that both Nancy and James may have died as well prior to the 1860 census? Any bits of information would sure be a help. Regards, Barb in Iowa

I am sorry that I did not reply before, we have had a busy week. I did not notice your Wm. Montgomery. The only Wm. I have are a father/son. Wm. Montgomery, Sr. died in 1906, buried in Dana, Illinois William Thomas Montgomery born in 1850, married Nannie E. Fulton in 1878 in Dana. Don't know when he died. In fact, most of "my" Montgomery's are from the Dana area. Joanie -- Streatorland Historical Society 306 South Vermillion Street Streator, Illinois 61364 Monday - Friday 9:30 - 2:30 Sunday 1 - 4 p.m.
...from Streator Free Press Weekly Saturday Apr 5, 1879, page 04 Another little girl, the fifth of the Fogler family, died from the effects of trichinae yesterday forenoon. The remaining child is in a very weak condition and is not expected to recover. I think one child was "adopted" by Louis/Lewis O'Neil. I don't know where they are buried. Elizabeth Defenbaugh-Fogler 1824 - 1909 is buried in Riverview, as are Barney and Martha Haldeman O'Neil. Maybe Martha buried Julia with her mother, Hannah Young?? But, I don't know where Hannah was buried. I don't know what happened to the other two children, Emma/Elmira or Charles Albert later on in life. By the way, in the 1860 census Julia is listed as a Coleman. Martha Haldeman married Samuel Coleman in Dec. 1840. She did not marry Barney to 1848. Does anyone know if this cemetery has been read? I have 4 family members buried there: Mary d. 1884; Sarah d. 1874; William b. 1869; and Asenoff d. 1875 Robinson. Not sure if the ladies married. Benjamin Robinson b. 1779 VA d. 1877 and he is suppose to be buried at Oakwood and he would be the father of those mentioned. Thanks, Tootsie
Dear Joanie, If you have access to the Streator Free Press Weekly for the late 1870's would you please check for the death of William Montgomery. Family oral history says he was a marshal/constable,etc at Streator, and following bringing in a prisoner through a snow storm came down with pneumonia and died; leaving a widow (Matilda) and two teen age children; and that Matilda subsequently lost the family home to foreclosure. Either event likely would have been reported in the "Weekly". Any related information would be very much appreciated. Tom Davis
