I have found your Joseph Durman in the 1900 census. Look on page 131B. Bruce Township, LaSalle county. In Heritage Quest the spelling is way off but it looks to me like Doermann. The names match the family that you are looking for. Good luck. Susan
Candy, I noticed your name and that of the cemetery. Would you have a Walter Ammons in your family? I have been scanning in photos from an old album that belonged to my mother, and there are several military/1940's photos of Walter Ammons. I have no idea who he is. My mother was Ethel Pruitt, parents Charles and Muriel Pruitt of Streator. Charles raised her as his own but her natural father was John Petko. Her grandparents were Thompsons and she married a #1-Himelrick, and #2 a Bain in California. Sharon > Mackey Cemetery, Ammons and Mackey's mostly buried there. Hi My Hiatt/Hyatt SMITH, died in Sept 1850 by accident, in Ophir, LaSalle County, IL. Is there a book with listings of burial? I would love to find where he is buried. Can anyone help me? Derre J Maybury Spring, Texas
I am researching the Dorman line from LaSalle County. I found a ship manifest that shows Ruth Dorman coming to US from England with son Benjamin to be with husband Joseph in 1898. It shows an address of St. Marrys, Streator. I have not been able to find them in the 1900 census for LaSalle Co. This is the information I have so far- In the Riverview records there is listed together in block 33 lot 43 the following names: Frank 1-24-1928 Joseph 12-15-1924 Ruth 9-28-1925 No stones or markers but in records, death dates only. 1920 Census Illinois, LaSalle, Streator, Bruce, Dist 91, 812 Cottage St., Family #162 Dorman, Joseph head, 70, married, owns home free of mortage, immigrated 1881, naturalized 1886, cannot read or write, England, England, England, Propriater Grocery Store Ruth 71, married, immigrated 1885, naturalized 1890, reads & writes, England, England, England, no occupation James, son, 36, single, immigrated 1885, naturalized (no date listed), can read & write, Clerk in grocery store O'Neal, Annie, daughter, 33, widowed, immigrated 1885, naturalized (no date listed), can read/write, England, England, England, Cashier in grocery store Paul, grandson, 10, Illinois, Illinois, England James F., grandson, 4 10/12, Illinois, Illinois, England Gladys, granddaughter, 9, Illinois, Illinois, England 1910 Census Bruce, Streator, LaSalle, Il. all born England Joseph Doerman,63, married 40 years, imm 1881, na, proprietor of grocery store Ruth, 62 birth to 9, 7 living, imm 1888, John, 29, imm 1888, na, excavator-sewers James, 26 imm 1888, burner-tile factory 1881 census Joseph DORMAN Head M Male 34 Dudley, Worcester, England Coalminer Ruth DORMAN Wife M Female 34 Dudley, Worcester, England William DORMAN Son Male 10 Dudley, Worcester, England Scholar Mary Ann DORMAN Daur Female 7 Thorley, Stafford, England Scholar Benjamin DORMAN Son Male 4 Thorley, Stafford, England Scholar John DORMAN Son Male 2 Kimberworth, York, England John HATHWAY Boarder U Male 27 Walsall, Stafford, England Coalminer Dwelling 17 Milton Sq Census Place Wombwell, York, 1871 England Census James Dorman 70 Ragley, Staffordshire, England Father Dudley Worcestershire Joseph Dorman 20 Dudley, Worcestershire, England Head Ruth Dorman 23 Dudley, Worcestershire, England Wife William Dorman 5 months Dudley, Worcestershire Any help on the address of St. Marrys would be appreciated. May I ask what names are you looking for, or what time frame? Bazore-Barnhart has a lot of early Bruce and Otter Creek citizens. I think the 1947 tombstone index has about 250 burials. Phillips, south of Streator, was an early cemetery. Joanie > Can anyone on this list help me with the cemeteries in Streator, LaSalle > County, Illinois. Hillcrest Memorial Park is about a half-mile north of Oakley Ave. It is on the west side of the road, St. Casimir's is on the east side. River Side, Rivew View, Riverwood, Riverview. Officially Riverwood until the turn of the century, then changed to Riverview. That area of Streator is called Riverside, not the cemetery. Townships included are Otter Creek, Bruce and Eagle. Lostlands, west of Kangley, was the first Catholic cemetery in the area. St. Mary's is the oldest in the City of Streator. It started about 1878. Others are: St. Anthony's, German; Old (and) New St. Stephen's, Slovak and Rusin; and St. Casimir's, Polish. There are also Catholics buried in the Russian Orthodox cemetery. Also, some of the earlier burials were in Ottawa. thanks Merriner is a familiar name, this is good information for me.
I believe your Nellie was married to my cousin, Louis Mootz, son of Louis W. Mootz and Dora Sanford. I have an obit for Louis, who died in 1985, and it mentions "the former Nell Hampton" as his wife, who died before him. I'm interested in any children for this couple. I'll be happy to share any Mootz information. Let me know if you would like a copy of this obit. Good luck! Judith Haller
Joanie, Thanks for your reply. I now have information regarding this family. I was hoping that I could find out what happened to Walter's sister Kate as well, but I have no idea who she married, where she married or if she even did marry or any place of death. Yes, Walter's parents were Edward and Julia. A son died and he is buried in Gridley near Walter and Leora. Walter's sister's family is buried in the same plot as well. Ada Hampton Raney, her husband John Raney and their children Zora and Walter are buried next to Walter and Leora. Edward and Julia are also buried at Gridley some distance from the younger Hampton. Julia's mother Mary Vert is also buried nearby. I just recently became aware of the relationships between these folks. One census states that Julia had 7 children with only 3 surviving. Her first husband and son are also buried in Gridley. Just such sad circumstances that there were so many young children's deaths. Thanks again for your help. I'm looking for info on Birt Abbott. Father was Isaac James Abbott; Mother was Mary (Varner) Abbott. Birt was born in KS 18 Jan 1887. I know they were in La Salle Cnty, IL by 1889 because Birt's next 4 sisters ( Alta, Lela, Evva, Ester) were born in IL. (6 more after were born in KS) Family stories are he died when he was a child of a spinal disease but I can't locate where he died. The family was never allowed to mention his name after his death. What has me realy courious is at "LDS Fmly Srch" I found his death listed as 15 Jan 1905 but no location. This puts his death at 18 yrs; not as a child. His name is written in the family bible as Birt Louis Abbott. Any info on him, or his family, would be so greatly appreciated. His grandfather was John Wm Abbott and grt-grndfther was Isaac Abbott. Thank you for any info you may find. Debbie
