    3. Roger-- Please don't take offense. I believe the person who has asked many times to be removed from the list is Dinel, and people are getting mixed up about who is making these requests. I am copying this to Dinel because apparently she posted a query about a person or family named Kelso and never got a reply--maybe because no one received any details about the Kelso query: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/ILLASALL/2005-08/1123521947 Never quit, Roger. 3. When you subscribed to the list you should have received a Welcome Letter telling you how to unsubscribe. How did you subscribe to the list? To unsubscribe, you do just the opposite. Instead of the word subscribe, you insert the word unsubscribe and you will be unsubscribed. it is that simple. It may take a day ot 2 for the automation to be completed so you may receive several emails more until it is completed. 1. FW: [ILLASALLE] Ruardean,Gloucestershire,England (original response)
    2. Tim Bryant
    3. Dear Roger and others on the list: I sent this original or first response to the list this morning, but it didn't get posted, maybe because I was unsubscribing my old address from the list and re-subscribing my new address. The info below was the original response to Roger's query: Roger-- There's a George Mason in Dimmick Twp in 1900, age 57, and married to Margret, 62, with children Martha, Noah, and Amy (ages 20, 19, and 18). George was a farm laborer. Sound like your guy? There's also a George Mason, farmer, in Northville, LaSalle County, on the 1880 census. The wife is Emma, and I don't know how Northville relates to Dimmick Twp, but if the two place names are related, this George could have been widowed and remarried later. His birthdate fits with the first George Mason above. Here's a description of Ruardean, a parish in Gloucestershire, in 1868: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/GLS/Ruardean/Gaz1868.html At that time there appears not to have been coal mining going on, but there's coal in the vicinity and mining could have developed later. Using the Free BMD (birth, marriage, death) site in England, I located a birth for a George Mason in 1843. Here is the search site: http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/. I am on the Rootweb list for Bristol and Somerset. Ruardean seems to be located in the Forest of Dean, and you can subscribe to the list there at http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/ENG/ENG-GLOS-FOREST-DEAN.html. I've gotten a great deal of info from the Bristol list. You might give it a try with the other list. 3. Roger-- After remembering that the 1900 census said George and Margret had been married 34 years, I figured I must be wrong on the 1880 census, and went back to the Free BMD site and found a marriage records for George Mason in June 1866. This marriage occurred in the district of Monmouth, and the wife's name may have been Mary Trotter. Monmouth covers a lot of place names, and some of them sound Welsh: Crick, Cwmcarvan, Dingestow, Dixton Newton, Llandenny, Llandogo, Llangatock-Vibou-Avel, Llangoven, Llanishen, Llantillio Crossenny, Llanvihangel-ystern-Llewern, Mitchel Troy, Monmouth, Park Grace-Dieu, Penalt, Penrose, Pen-y-Clawdd, Ragland, Rockfield, St. Manghans, Skenfreth, Tregare, Trelleck, Welsh Bicknor (1837-44), Wonastow. Since Margret was from Wales (1900 census), this entry appears to fit fairly well. Best wishes, Tim
