Hi all, I am new to the list. I am searching for info on an Isaac MOONEY, found in the index of the 1860 census LaSalle Co.,ILL on page 1156. Can anyone tell me if it would be possible for someone to do a look-up on this film for me? I think this Isaac might have come from Ohio and is part of my tree. I have already searched the genweb page for LaSalle, and found in the 1917 Prairie Farmers Directory a Rose MOONEY, wife of a John E. CROWLEY, and also a Delia MOONEY, wife of an Edward BRADY. Is there anyone on the list here who has these families in their trees?? :-) THANKS!! Charlene in Nebraska

I am looking for any information or connection to WARREN LAWRENCE who settled in Marseilles, IL in the early 1800s. Warren Lawrence was born about 1796 probably in New London County (possibly Preston) Connecticut. His father was AMOS LAWRENCE. His mother may have been DESIRE NILES. About 1805 he relocated with his family to Black Lick Twp., Indiana County, Pennsylvania. His family consisted of his father, his fathers wife (Desire Niles), and two sisters Elizabeth and Amey. About 1816 he married LETTIE WATERMAN who was born in Dutchess County, NY and is the daughter of OLIVER WATERMAN and ELIZABETH ESMOND. Warren and Lettie had four children: William (b 1817 in Black Lick Twp., PA); Lucy (b. 1824); Hiram (b. 1826) and Warren Lawrence Jr. (B. 1828). Some or all of the last three children may have been born in Illinois but it is more likely they were born in PA. Any information would be very much appreciated. Thank you. Ron Dillon Coral Springs, FL dillonr@gate.net
Can someone please tell me whether Marseilles is located in LaSalle County or some other county? My knowledge of Illinois geography is pretty rudimentary. Thank you Ron Dillon Coral Springs, FL
Sorry. We are in Colorado so I am afraid we know no better than you.
Does anyone have access to the church records? I know for sure that my g-grandmother Ida FANDREI was confirmed in the Evangelical Church on 21 March 1880. Her family came to LaSalle from Preussia, which became Poland, in 1873. Her father Frederick was a tailor and her mother Anna was a housewife. Her sisters Agusta, Emily, Caroline, Ottelia, and her brother Carl all came together. Looking for any information on this family. TYIA Roger

To Malcolm and others with ancestors from Posen: I found this info in the LDS Family History Center.................. "Poznan (in German Posen) is an area in West Central Poland on the Warta River. It began as a small stronghold in the 9th Century and the city became the capital of Poland. The first 2 sovereigns of Poland resided there, and are buried in the cathedral which was built in 968 A.D. It was, for a time, a cultural and trade center of Europe. It declined in the 16th century, and in 1793 Poznan was annexed into Prussia, intensifying a Germanization which had begun in the 13th century. Poznan was under Russian administration from 1807 to 1815, as a part of the Duchy of Warsaw, and then later again reverted to Prussian control. It became part of the German Empire in 1871 (Second Reich). The name was changed from the Polish Poznan to the German Posen at the beginning of the 20th century. After World War I, in 1918, it became a part of Polnd once again. In 1939 the Germans returned and in 1945 the city of Posen was seft in ruins after the Russians beseiged the city and drove the Germans out. In 1946 it again became part of Poland. The LDS Genealogical Society has 22 rolls of microfilm for the Civil Registers of this area. They are for the 1815 to 1855 and cover births, deaths, and marriages. Most of the records, particularly those for the former area of West Prussia were kept in German." My great grand father Frederick Adolph Ulm was born in Posen in 1862 as was his mother Caroline Kruger born in Posen in 1819. They came to LaSalle County in 1878. Her husband and older son came to LaSalle from Posen in 1875 on the SS Suevia which docked in New York on 12 NOV, 1875. (I have a copy of the ship's passenger list from the National Archives) Hopefully we can help one another with research! Cyndi Hanson LaSalle Co. Hi All, My family was German also, but came to the area in 1830, just after the Indians were pushed west (again). These are the surnames I'm interested in, and I will gladly share any information that I have with interested parties: Shaver, Green, Debolt, Trumbo, Dunnavan, Snelling, Lowman, Moss, Pitzer, Parr, and others. Perhaps I should add, after leaving Germany before 1738 after being persecuted because of religious beliefs (Mennonite), the Shaver's landed in Bucks Co. Pa and then were prominent in Rockingham Co., Va and then on to Licking Co. OH (1805), and then as mentioned above in LaSalle Co. I would love to hear from anyone on these names. I have not heard of any publication, but maybe migration patterns would help you.... My family also came from an area of Germany, now in Poland. Flyers were passed out, seen on the local community board of the day and heard of in Germany and Europe in the 1800's. Many folks left for one of seven reasons: famine or lack of food, poor conditions in general, war or draft into army, poor farming conditions - poor land, opposition to the government, religious freedom..... Can not remember the rest, now. My relatives wanted to move out of the city. Anyone who came on a ship, arriving on the eastern USA coast, heard of "Great opportunities" out west. Many were disappointed, others were not. All found many hardships. Flyers and agents tried to convince immigrants to book passage with them on particular ships to inland ports. My relatives wanted to head to Chicago, so family stories go and in Chicago, they encountered agents who convinced them to come to LaSalle to work at one of the factories, in this case, a clock manufacturing place and eventually he did more masonary work which he was familar with. Any town with access to rivers had commerce lines coming into the area and with the opening of the railroad, more folks and commerce moved around. Hope this helps. Kay Diers MN reader and Genealogist
