My great-grandparents moved to the City of LaSalle in1880. He was a zinc smelter. They are listed in the census as being "French". Actually, they were Belgium. I noticed a lot of other "French" people on the the census who also worked in the zinc smelting plant. Is there anyone else of Belgium ancestry whose family worked in the zinc smelting plants on this list? I would like to exchange information. I would also like to know where I could find out more information on the zinc smelting plant. I saw a very small notation about it at one time being the largest in the nation and that it closed in 1960. Any chance there are records anywhere?
