Does any one have a copy of the LaSalle 1870 Census, I am looking for NUGENT, their children would be Sada and Jennie that I know of, I don't know the parents. Sincerely, Ann
Seems to me that there were some coal mines around Morris. Last I heard the town was in danger of sinking into the mines! That was about 20 years ago. Martha in Texas
Thank you, I will check out Morris. have a nice day. Arlene
Hello: I just found out that my ggrandfather, STEPHEN PFIFER(PFEIFER) naturalized in LaSalle County, Ill in 1899 since he was a coal miner all his life immigrating from Austria in 1893, could someone tell me where the coal mines were in LaSalle County? Then he left and went to Grundy Co, Coal City, in 1900. Also looking for information about his two sisters, Antonia Cesar, and Agnes(?). Was there any extra census between 1890 and 1900? Or could you direct me to find out that information. Thank you for any help. Arlene Crowfoot crowfoa@aol.com

There was a large Scottish population in the Waltham Township area. Many families are still there such as the Freebairn's Stevenson's and Wylies and Cuthbertson's. ---------- From: jenanj@ivnet.com > To: ILLASALL-D@rootsweb.com > Subject: ILLASALL-D Digest V99 #12 > Date: Thursday, January 14, 1999 3:49 AM >
Hello Susi, I am in cold Des Moines, IA. I am trying to learn what I can about early Scot settlers in Lasalle Co OH. I probably have some kinfolk in Chula Vista but I don't know who they are! I seem to have relatives everywhere so why not Chula Vista? If I should run into information about your Neil/O'Neil family or the Allens, I will forward records to you. Neither name appears in my own work. I thank you for your kind offer of help but I guess I have no questions right now. Thanks, anyhow. seek info on the descendants of one Logan Bailey who was born in Taylor County, Ky. I know that Logan was in LaSalle County in the early 1930 but have now knowledge of him after that. Does he have in descendants in the area now? My Grandmother was Francis "Fanny" Bailey Dishon and may have been a sister to Logan Bailey. Any help will be appreciated. Jim Walls in Ky.
Thank you, Deanna, for writing about your Scots ancestors in LaSalle Co. I am sure there were additional families. I believe these Scots settlers were from Aberdeen, the county if not the city, as that was where our ancestors lived. If the Cruickshanks were rejoining friends or acquaintances, these folks were likely from the same area in Scotland? There is one story: after the arrival of the Cruickshank family from Sarnia, Ontario, the first news they heard in United States was that the president (Lincoln) had been killed. There was possibly a Wylie or Wyler family who were from Scotland. The Stevensons also were from Scotland. I will appreciate any leads on more Scots who were living in LaSalle Co. in 1866. I have recently joined an Aberdeen list and hope to learn more from that connection. Virginia

Virginia -------- REPLY, End of original message -------- Hello LaSalle Listers and Virginia Parmenter, I have a family connection to a Lachlan McNeill who emigrated/migrated in a similar path and time zone to the relatives you describe. My connection is to Sarah Jane RAWSON and her 1st spouse, Edwin Saltzman, who are my gr gr grandparents. The only clue to WHERE they first settled in Ontario is Flora McNeill's birthplace as stated in her obituary. Lachlan & his 1st wife went over to KS for about 3 years, where she died. I do not know exactly when that was, or where in KS they went. There was no death record found by LaSalle Co., but I do have an obituary and copies of pages from Lachlan's bible, and a picture of his gravestone. My husband's grandparents went from Aberdeen Scotland to Ontario where they lived about 12 years, Three children died with small pox or diphtheria in Sarnia, Ontario and the wife/mother became so depressed her husband moved the family to LaSalle Co IL where old friends and/or neighbors from Scotland had settled. Robert and Christina (Dalgarno) Cruickshank arrived in LaSalle County about 1866 and moved west to Iowa later. I am interested in which families from Scotland may have lived in the area at the time they made the move from Canada. Can anyone help? Thank you. Virginia
