Good Morning. I have information that might be of interest to you. In my family there was an Alex WALLACE who married a Mary Ann CORRIGAN Carr (widow of a Civil War soldier). They lived in LaSalle Co. Alex was from Troy Grove, Mary Ann from Ophir--neighboring townships. They had a daughter Julia A. WALLACE born in Sept., possibly 1868. After 1880 they settled in Vernon Co., MO. I don't know what became of Julia, but TOWNER was a name from that same area in LaSalle Co. Alex's sister Margaret WALLACE married Gustav DREXEL, by the way. If any of this sounds like what you need, let me know. PAPA55@aol.com wrote: > Looking for info about Abe(?) Ann, Jennie and/or Sada NUGENT are not listed in the 1860 OR 1870 census of LaSalle County, unless they are under the surname of the relatives. 1870 there is an Ann NUGENT, age 71, living "with daughter" Rebecca BRETT, age 43, and children Thomas, Mary, Catharine, John; no husband. City of Ottawa, house 529-497. There is a P. NUGENT, 28, produce dealer living in boarding house of Alvina BARNEY, City of Ottawa, house #580-548. In Vol 1, 1880 census, the ONLY NUGENT is again Patrick, 35, blacksmith, this time with wife Mary, kids Minnie, Frank and Martin. There are no other NUGENTs listed in Vol 1. Vol 2 has not been published yet. Contact the LaSalle County Genealogy Guild, Ottawa, IL (815) 433-5261, for a look-up in drafts of Vol 2. They may have other sources to check for you. -----Original Message----- From: NASCANN1@aol.com <NASCANN1@aol.com> To: ILLASALL-L@rootsweb.com <ILLASALL-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, 20 January, 1999 3:36 PM Subject: [ILLASALL-L] 1870 Census >Can anyone do a look up in the 1870 census of Lasalle County? >I am looking for 2 sisters. Looking for info about Abe(?) WALLACE, born in Scotland, who married a Mary Ann DREXEL and had a daughter, Julia Ann WALLACE, born 9/30/1868 in Illinois, probably LaSalle County. Julia Ann married a Gillead TOWNER in 1887 in MO. Gillead Towner was also from LaSalle County. Trying to find info about family and ancestors of Abe Wallace.
Can anyone do a look up in the 1870 census of Lasalle County? I am looking for 2 sisters. Jennie and Sada Nugent. Sada would be around 9-11 years old. They would be living with relatives as being orphaned around 1861-1862. Thanks Ann
Ruth, I don't know about the time period you're looking for, but the LaSalle County libraries carry a book called "The Cherry Mine Disaster" which includes many of the family names of the miners who were working in the Cherry mine when it burned in the early 1900's. As a child, I also read a book called "The Great Cherry Mine Disaster" which I'm sure is out of print years ago, but might be in one of the library archives. I found "The Cherry Mine Disaster" at the Mendota library. Any cemetaries in the Cherry-Ladd area would probably be worth checking. Rose
Is there any way one can check the coal mines for workers in the time peride from 1854 to 1865? Are there any records, anywhere? Thanks much Ruth
Hello, I placed a query about Cruickshank-Dalgarno Scots. They were not early settlers but I am trying to locate other Scots who were here ahead of 1866 when mine came from Ontario Canada to be near old neighbors / friends from Scotland. I am trying to learn how to do some research in Scotland right now. There were several coal mines in the Cherry and Ladd area. There was a great mine disaster in the early 1900's at Cherry. Many miners died, and the mine never reopened. The great slag heaps were still there as I was growing up, and may still be there looking like small mountains. Rose Caster (From Mendota in LaSalle County)
Audrey, They have been working on the system for the last few days. They say it will be back up by Monday. Frustrating, isn't it. :~) Carol Jack Franklin wrote: > When I try to use the mailing list url at bottom of message, I am told I am > forbidden to reach it by this server. Anyone know why? Hi, I've researched my Rogers family in La Salle and Grundy counties. The Morman Church has, at their Family History Centers, many film that can be ordered from Salt Lake City. Two that I found especially helpful were: Grundy Co. vital records, film # 1,415,755 and La Salle Co. mariage record index, film # 1,710,810. They have others that might be just as helpful. Good luck. Dorothy
When I try to use the mailing list url at bottom of message, I am told I am forbidden to reach it by this server. Anyone know why?
