Hi-Can anyone on this list tell me if there are Marriage lists for LaSalle County, and what time frame they cover? I am looking for marriages that probably occurred between 1890 and 1916 with the surname JONES. Specifically, Lizzie Jones (probably Elizabeth), born 1874 and Kate Jones (probably Catherine) born in 1872 and Willie Jones born in 1879. Also interested in possible records for William Jones b 1860 to Hannah _____. Thanks for any suggestions. Debbie in California
Looking for information on the following: Anton Korpal born in Dembowko, Poland was a Zinc Laborer in LaSalle. Mary (Lenski) Korpal born in Bialosliw, Poland they lived at 940 8th, in LaSalle, Illinois in 1883. Mary had a brother Wladuslaw Lenski living at 1069 Hennepin, LaSalle, Illinois on June 21, 1941. Anton & Mary were the parents of my grandfather Joseph Korpal born March 16, 1883 in La Salle, Illinois. I would love any information that anyone can give me, like any other relatives or even the date of their marraige or anything else that someone might have. Thanks in Advance Barbara biegs7@prodigy.net
Dorothy, I would have to see names. My husbands gt grandmother was a Snell and these are descendants of her brothers and sisters and I've not put together very good records. I was mostly on a "fishing trip" hoping some relative would appear but it has not happened so far. I would guess the Porters may not be related to mine as ours settled in Guthrie County IA and seemed to stay there except for one family that went to OK and practically starved before they found oil on their land!! (Then more money than all the rest put together.) Snells and Moreheads moved together to LaSalle Co IL and seemed to stick together in the next generation better than they did with our Porters. It is so hard to track down folks you know so little about? If you have given names for any of those in MO and KS, I'd be glad to compare. Hi, January 4 you asked about Moreheads and Snells who lived in LaSalle Co., IL and mentioned ones who had died in KS and MO. My g'grandparents, Gage m. Rogers, also lived in LaSalle Co., IL and moved to Linn Co., KS. In Linn Co., KS and Bates Co., MO, there were Morehead, Snell, and Porter families. Is there any connection? Dorothy
Fishing for PORTER, Okay I will bite. My cousin was PORTER From Washington Co PA she had kin in IOWA. Some collateral lines are MC Clure. Some data in the TEN MILE CREEK book and at the Washington and Greene Co Usgenweb sites. SusiCP@aol.com
Great tip Susi! I have so often found that family members were living next door when I went back to look for them! Accidently found a Mother living with her son in law that way too. Debbie
Okay all remember this if you use an INDEXED census you loose all your relatives that lived near your ancestors. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have used for many years the 20 names before and 20 names after for family. AND Dr. George Schwietzer advocates it also. I used ten and he suggests 20 and it really pays off. Always take the 20 before and after and later you do not have to go back and redo. SusiCP@aol.com
The LaSalle County census for 1860, 1870, and 1880 has been indexed and Published by the LaSalle County Genealogy Guild. It sells for about $40 per volume, and has 2 volumes per census. Most of the people who are doing look-ups are using these volumes. Could someone please tell me if there is a cemetery behind St. Hyacinth Church in LaSalle, Illinois? I have been told that there is and that a lot of my relatives are buried there but I have not been able to confirm this at all. Please send all replys to: chucknk@gate.net Thanks so much and any help will be greatly appreciated. Kay
Why 1870 Look-up is helpful to me. Federal Archives near me (N. Cal) does not have an index for 1870 IL except for Cook County. And of course, for 1870 no Soundex was done. The only way one can find anything in 1870 IL is to go line-by-line through the film. I figure I'm lucky if I know the township -- means less film cranking & eye strain. But to line-by-line through a whole county is no-end TEDIOUS. Even if you volunteers are able to line-by-line through a printed copy of the census, you have it better than what I described. Believe me, I am very grateful to have at least LaSalle County searched! Thank you. Sue Alberts
Thanks so much, that's great information. Hi searchers: Lately I have seen many requests for someone to search the 1870 LaSalle census for their names. LaSAlle county census contains many districts and subdivisions. Your names can be in one of them, but without a little more information than "LaSalle", it could take days for them to search all LaSalle. The census is not alphabetized. It is usually by EDu. dist within Supervisory dist. then by street within each ward. My suggestion to you would be to find a Later Day Saints Family History Center near you or a Fedearl National Archives and Records Administration Office near you. The FHC's have most all the census for the whole country. If the local FHC does not have the census you want they can order it from SAtl Lake City at a nominal cost. I am not Mormon but I use their services all the time and find the volunteers to be very helpful people. To find a FHC near you call 1-800-346-6044 For the nat Archives try http://www.nara.gov Good hunting :) DTidaback@aol.com
I was wondering if I could get a lookup in the 1870 LaSalle Co. census for a Thomas Smith and family? He had one known daughter Emily Jane who would have been abt 17yrs., born March of '53'. She was born in London, England. Thanks for your consideration. Carolee chapman@seward.net

Hi Ruth, Maybe it is just a bad day for lookups for me. I didn't find a John Weber with a wife Julie in the La Salle Co. Genealogy Guilds transcription of the 1870 census. I also looked at the Webbers. Thanks to all of you for looking for my Ebenezer JONES in the census. I was hoping he was there, but until yesterday I didn't even know there WAS an 1870 census, so I'll just forget there was ;-) Debbie
Hi--In seeing the recent posts, it seems that there exists an 1870 census of LaSalle. This is a complete surprise to me and I'm wondering if someone could do a lookup for me. I am seeking the Ebenezer JONES family. He was born in Wales in 1837. His wife was Margaret and some children might be Mary, Bill, Rees and Noah. Anxious to see if other children were at home then who I have not found previously. Thank you so much for your assistance! Debbie in California
