    1. [ILLASALL-L] Peru burial
    2. linda
    3. Hello Listers, I am new to the list. I have a problem in LaSalle county, and wonder if anyone can help. I'm looking for a burial for Frederick DOREI, or DORI. I have some court affidavits from a trial in KS that says he died in Peru in approximately 1867. He was found on the train tracks near the Rock Island depot. The affidavits say there was an inquest and he was buried in the city cemetery. I have written to the Peru city cemetery, and got a reply that they had no record of the burial, and had checked other local cemeteries with no luck. Frederick's family was Catholic, so it could be that he was buried in the church cemetery, but I don't know which other cemeteries my correspondent looked in. My question is, it there a compilation of cemetery indexes from LaSalle county that I could have searched? Frederick was also a veteran of the 104th Ill in the Civil War. It is from his pension file that I got this information, but unfortunately only an approximate date of death was given. Thank you, Linda Dorei

    3. Anyone interested in the Lowman family of the Ottawa area of LaSalle County, who is willing to trade information, is who I would like to get in touch with. I have pretty extensive information but still have a few holes to fill in and would like to find anything else that there is out there on this family. Arthur Bradley Lowman is a good place to start, born on March 18, 1818 in Berkley County, VA married Margarere Ellen Blair on Dec 31, 1857. I need to know where they married ILL or VA. Arthur died April 8, 1888 and Margarere Oct 1, 1894. They had 7 children that I know of. I have lots of information from there to the present but need more on Arthur and Margarere parents and siblings. I also have obits and some history. Happy Hunting Sue

    2. Seeking information on Michael and Mary Dooley who lived in Peru, mid-19th century. According to 1880 census data Michael, Mary and only son John (born 1862 in Peru), lived on Calhoun (?) St in Peru. Michael and Mary are listed as having been born in Ireland. The census enumerator spelled the last name DULEY but I am reasonably sure that this was done in error. Any information (marriage, property, death records, etc.) that you could provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. John M. Dooley Davenport, Iowa

    1. [ILLASALL-L] Beckwith, Briggs, Perkins families
    2. Charlotte Carl-Mitchell
    3. I'm researching my great grandparents, Noah Cushman PERKINS (1846-1900) and Georgianna BECKWITH Perkins (1850-1900) whose daughter, Mercy BRIGGS Perkins Ramsey (1885-1970) was my grandmother. I had heard that the Perkins family was prominent in Ottawa, but Perkins is not in the family surname index. I have information (names and dates) that takes the PERKINS/CUSHMAN family back to the Mayflower, but I want to learn more personal details. Because my grandmother's grandmother, aunt, father and mother all died within 6 months of each other in 1900, she being only 14 at the time, for the rest of her long life she was reluctant to talk about her family. Her tragedy didn't stop there. She came to Texas to be with her older brother, Charles who'd moved here for his health but in 1902 he died of TB. Then in 1910 her only other brother, Noah died of Typhoid Fever leaving her with only one sister, Mary Frank Perkins. And to add insult to injury, because she was from Illinois, she was considered a "damnyankee" by my grandfather's family. All in all a sad tale. But she persevered I guess because of her Yankee Pilgrim grit. Thanks for any information you have that could help me. Charlotte Carl-Mitchell Austin, Tx ccm@tic.com 512-477-3319

There is a lot of information so if you would like I can copy this for you and snail mail it to you. I looked up the other names you mentioned and didn't find anything on them in this book. Or what you might want to do is to contact the LaSalle County Genealogy Guild they are at: http://genealogy.org/~dpc The book was $50.00 and I am very happy with it, it had a lot of great information. Roswell Talmadge PETTIT is my partners grandfather, and all I know of him is that he was a radiologist in Ottawa. His father ran a sanatorium in the same town. He was married to Dorothy Lord BLATCHFORD and had 2 daughters. If any one has any information they can share on the PETTIT family I would be interested in hearing. Roswell would probably have been born c1890. I have found an ancestral file for Dorothy but with no mention of the PETTIT's. I did find a ROSWELL - TALMADGE marriage in the mid 1800's but no link to Roswell himself. I have been in touch with the Lasalle Genealogy Guild but as yet have not had a reply. Are they on email? 3. Searching for info on marriage for Jacob Harrison AVERILL b.1826, he married abt. 1851 to Lois A. LAKE b.1830, according to an obituary, they married in LaSalle County, ILL, and their first child Samuel Frederick Averill was born 6 Apr 1852 in Mendota Twp., LaSalle Co., ILL. There may have been other AVERILL and LAKE families living in the county also. Some of their relatives, and Jacob's parents, Nathan AVERILL and wife Laura A. LAKE, were living nearby in Sublette Twp., LEE County, ILL. Laura A. LAKE Averill died 14 OCT 1850 in Sublette Twp., Lee, ILL, but she could possibly be buried in Mendota Twp., LaSalle County, ILL, as no burial record exists for her in Lee County. The family were members of the Baptist Church in Lee County, and also in Bradford County, PA, prior to moving to ILL in 1842. Thanks, Charlene K. ckknfk@kdsi.net

The ones we haven't printed we have available at the Guild. We have copied most of the 200 cemeteries in the county. Just write to us and tell us the name and where they lived and we will see what we can find. 2. Also, the LaSalle Co. Genealogical Guild has many cemeteries that have been inventoried, but aren't yet in (published) book form. Call them and ask about a particular cemetery, it may very well be written up but just in a binder at the guild building. I know they are working on all the cemeteries in the county, and many of the small ones are already done (like Hope Twp. cemetery, outside Lostant)!
