    3. Arlene, You may want to ask your local LDS what they have on their list for LaSalle County. The Mormon libraries are usually the ones that put these microfilms together and distribute them the libraries. If that doesn't work, have you tried IRAD? They don't rent out the microfilms, but they do have a lot on the LaSalle County Naturalization records, according to their list. http://www.sos.state.il.us/cgi-bin/iradsrch?lasalle At the bottom of the page, click on "IRAD Research Policy". Here you will find where to write. Good Luck! Carol Lois Hill wrote: > Arlene, Sorry, but they are not sent anywhere. They are our own private > research. 1. [ILLASALL-L] BERNARD, ADOLF
    2. Hi! am new to the list - just subscribed. I just found out my ggrandfather was in Northville township in 1860. Per the census he was there & married to Adeline with six children (Josephene, Eugenie, George, Adeline, David, and possibly Adam). Adolph or Adolf, and it seems, Adeline came from Alsace, France - I believe in 1850. Tried to find him in the 1850 census, but no luck. Perhaps he came after the census, although the oldest girl Josephene was 10 in 1960 and said to be born in ILL. Something happened to Adeline as he remarried in 1872 in IA to Adella the mother of my grandmother. Sorry - not making much sense, but have just found out that he had two wives... any help with BERNARD and his family (brothers, sisters and his immediate family) would be so much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Barb at bjs4179@aol.com

    3. Lois, yes my Trompeter family did live in LaSalle county. Some stayed there, and some moved to Brown county, KS around 1870. It was a large family, and all were decendants of Henry Trompeter from the area of Much, Germany. One of his sons, Gerhard, is buried at St Joseph's church cemetery. I'm a little confused about it's location, since I thought the church was in Peru, Lasalle co, but the cemetery is in Spring Valley. (Which would be Putnam county?) Two of Henry's sons, Frank and John Peter Trompeter, served in the 104th IL Inf., and enlisted in Ottawa. Frank also says he served in the 61st IL Inf under an alias, William Snyder, probably because he deserted the 104th! The Frederick Dorei I am looking for served in the 104th also. 2. Jean; that is a good idea to keep in mind about looking for the first papers. I knew that they had to show proof, so I fugured they had to have them together somehow. NO copy machines--how that would make it easier but not as much fun. Right? I just found out about some films that might have it on file. Will check it out. Thanks again for your help. Arlene

    3. Samuel Gordon was b.1837 in PA. He married Susan McDowell in 1859 in LaSalle Co. They had at least 9 children (who were still living when Samuel died in 1912). According to Samuel's obituary, he was survived by Mrs. Jacob Mott of Langler, OK; Frank Gordon, of Hermit, CA; Mrs Frank (Emma) Fishburn of S. Ottawa; Mrs David(Rebecca) Hunter of Grand Ridge; Mrs. George (Mary E.) Kelly of Marceilles; George Gordon of Ottawa, Wiley, John and Ophilia of Utica. Any information on this line of Gordons would be greatly appreciated. Pat

    3. Arlene and List: I recently found out something interesting in researching naturalization papers while visiting in MN. The very helpful and knowledgeable fellow at the Stearns County Heritage Center said that someone applying for final papers had to prove he had applied elsewhere. Since copy machines weren't available <gr> oftentimes the "true copy" or notarized statement from wherever he first filed was filmed AT THE END OF THE ROLL the final papers are filmed on. He had found this out by accident, he has never seen it written up anywhere. At least this is true in early MN records, and in 1860's and 70's. One of my ancestors' file number was 614, we skimmed toward the end of the roll, where, in numerical order with other peoples' documentation, was my ancestors proof, under number 614. This was true for three different ancestors. One had filed in IN, one in Buffalo, NY. However, on a friend's search in 1911, (different state) the documentation is different. But it's certainly worth a look! 3. >Arlene First papers, intent to file, may be filed in any county, any court. Many may file, and then move on to other parts. Track for place of entry, where did they go after entry? If from a region in Europe, where were others from the same region going? Some went to places, where neighbors and others were, who wrote back to family.

    2. Cancel my question about the county seat of LaSalle County as this has been answered--Ottawa is the county seat. Does anyone have any ideas as where the first papers could be located. I thought if they had the final papers, that the first papers would be filed along with them. Does anyone have any experience at finding the first papers? Thanks for any help. Arlene PFEIFER,CESAR
