    3. Kate, Have you checked the new Ancestral File Web Page that just came on line? Go to www.familysearch.org and do a search on Sylvester Waters. Katharine E. Owens (is that you?) has submitted a lot of information on the WATERS families. Martin Waters (son of Sylvester) married Ida Luella Liles (my great-grandaunt). I have done extensive research on the LILES family as that is my mother's maiden name. I am back to Abraham Crack Liles b. 1808 in England, settled in New York circa 1853. His Son, John Crack Liles b. 1832 in England came to Illinois circa 1855 and Ida is his daughter. Let me know what your interest would be in the LILES line. 2. Yes, that is my family, I am Katharine Owens. I'm trying to find out more about Sylvester, census says he was born in Ireland, he married in Fulton Co. I can't find any other family members before him. The Lynch family did come from Ireland to NY in abt 1848/50, then to Fulton Co. Do you have any Lynch/Lisle connections. Do you have anyother thoughts about your Elizabeth Waters, I'm 99%sure she's not Martin's sister, but could have been from the next generation, I suppose. Or related in some other way. Do you know where Elizabeth and John were married? I don't believe I have a location for Martin's marriage, I may have gotten his wifes name from cemetary records. He was still living in 1919/20, when a family photo was taken, while my Grandmother, Catharine was visiting Utica, from Wash.

    3. I don't believe they normally name farms in LaSalle Co or most of Illinois, I would imagine that the address was Streator, Illinois. The Prairie Farmer Directory's that I have looked at do name the actual owner of the farm if it is not the one listed at the start. I would presume there is some relationship but no idea what it is. Otter Creek is probably the Township and the land is located in section 11 of that township. Each township is normally 6mi by 6mi broken up into 1 mil square sections with 36 sections per township. Hope this helps. I did a name search and came up with a result in the 'Prairie Farmer's Directory of LaSalle County, Illinois, 1917. The information was presented exactly as follows; GAFF, Alfred Streater R6 Otter Creek Sec11 T120a Mrs H Gaff (1902) All the other entries on this page had the first name of the 'farmer' immediately after the bold typed surname, followed by his wife (including maiden name), and then, names of children. As you can see, there is no such detail here! I'm assuming that a semi colon has been missed out and that Alfred is the Christian name of the farmer, he was not married, and the name of the farm is 'Streater'. According to the list of abbreviations the 'T120a' refers to the acreage of the farm and that the farmer was a Tenant or Renter, and, although this isn't explained in the abbreviations, it would seem from the other entries, that the name at the end of the entry is the owner of the land. Ida Luella Liles married Martin Waters circa 1882 and had 4 children Susan M. 1844 Martin Jr 1887 Ida Luella 1888 John W. 1893 John "Jack" Liles married Elizabeth Waters circa 1887 and had seven children Luella 1888 Ida E. 1890 John Thomas 1893 Amanda 1896 Marie 1900 Alice 1903 Annetta 1908 Ida and John Liles were sister and brother, children of John Crack Liles. 2. Dear Mr. Angell, I recently read your inquiry on LaSalle County list. I was wondering if there was a connection with my family. I have had little luck finding family there. My great great grandfather Arthur Chamberlin (4-21-1816----5-21-1863)and wife Eliza Horn Chamberlin (8-19-1817---12-31-1902) went from Amwell Twp., Washington County, PA (about 1856) to La Salle County, IL. At the time they had eight children. The oldest child, Daniel Chamberlin, was my great grandfather. He and his wife (Phebe Camp) were married before they left PA. After they arrived in LaSalle County (Tonica) - I think Vermilliontown - Arthur and Eliza, and Daniel and Phebe, both had a child. Both named the daughters Susan. Daniel and Phebe were my great grandparents. Daniel died young and Phebe returned to PA with several children. Arthur and Eliza Horn's children: Daniel Chamberlin 1836-1873 m. Phebe Camp Sarah 1838-1887 m. ------ Studebaker Jackson 1840-1928 m. Sarah Brierly Lucinda Emily 1843-1916 unmarried Martha 1846-1936 m. Minor Lewis David 1848-1917 m. Josephine Brierly Mary A. 1851-1886 m. Noah Cover (Cave?) Huldah 1854-1926 m. Wm. Peck Susan O. 1857-1936 m. Cartwright (Courtwright?) I have many wonderful old photographs of the Chamberlins. If you can make a connection, I would enjoy hearing from you. Linda Stahl, Harrisburg, PA.
