Can someone help me with a location. I'm trying to find a street or road that the farm where my ancestor lived is located. In the 1860 census the farms with large acreage were: John Murrey with $10,000 of real estate and Patrick Briscoe with $4,000. The dwelling house numbered in the order of visitation go from 15 to 17. Please direct me to a source. Thanks, Arlene
Sorry, I got the other address from Switchboard.com, which is where I thought I got it the first time. Thanks for the correction. That address got my letter sent back as not deliverable. ?? A look in the Yellow Pages showed this church to be located at 1925 5th St., Peru 61354.
Dear Linda Thank you very much for your letter. What a wonderful thing is if we are related. My Grandmother, Anna M. Freitag, according to the info that I have was born 27 Sept. 1867. As far as I know there was no other Caspar Freitag married to Margaretha Trumpeter. Margaretha's father was Adolph Trumpeter. Is this name in your information? He was, according to the stone on his grave, born in 1803. Caspar and Margaretha had several children. I have some information that they had one or two daughters who died in Peru before the family moved to Kansas. I have done some research on this family. Caspar, according to his obituary, came from Germany to Philadelphia and then on to Peru where he married Margaretha. Thank you for the address of the Church. Do you live in Il? Wouldn't this be wonderful if we are related and can exchange information? I have a death card on Margaretha/ Margaret who was born in 1836 in Germany and died in 1921 in Kansas. I am the only one working on this line that I know of. Anna married Henry Mentgen in Peru. If you have any more information I would like to know what ever you will share with me. I can tell you about the family after they came to Ks. Children and etc .I do not have Margaret's Mothers name and would like to find this . Thanks again. Jean Weber Lincoln, Ne.
Dear Jean, I have written to St. Joseph's church in Peru for records, which they kindly shared with me. Their address is: St. Joseph's Catholic Church 829 Schuyler St. Peru, IL 61354-2601 (815) 223-0718 If I remember right, their records start about 1864. I was looking at the records I had photocopied, and oddly enough, there is a birth entry for Anna Margaretha, born 14 April 1869, to Caspari Freitag of Peru and Margaretha Trumpeter...This is a common misspelling of "Trompeter," which is one of my families...could we be connected? Linda Dorei
Hi! Interested in Hartfiel and Sommerfeld lines from Posen. Do you recognize other names such as Sommefelt (various spellings and variations), Weber or Krueger, Zuenther, Zinter who seem to have come from the same area? See my info... Charlotte Bucholtz married Christof Hartfiel and had 2 sons, Gottfried (born 2/3/1850) and Christopher (born about 1852). The parents died leaving the sons orphaned. The government made promises that Gottfried and his wife, Augusta (Sommerfelt) Hartfiel, would get land and good conditions but nothing came of those promises so Gottfried and family came to USA in 1881 and I assume Christopher came about 1883. Gottfried and his family came thru Wisconsin, I believe, to La Salle Co. Illinois and then moved to Douglas Co. Minnesota in 1898. They always wanted to move out of the city and build a house in the country. Christopher was a card player and is believed to have lost his shirt in card games... Christopher was never heard from and never connected up with Gottfried in USA. But Gottfried's family thinks he was in Duluth, MN. Any info on this family would be appreciated. I went to the LaSalle Co. Court House on June 3rd; hoping to find the above two men in Declaration of Intent Records and Naturalization Records. On Fridays, on dress-down day - every other week, the clerk looks for the names in old clothes because of the condition of the books. I heard nothing from the clerk, so I was supposed to stop back when I came through the area again. On June 14th, I went there again, but the clerk was not in on Monday, and had left no forwarding message or information for the other clerks to pass on to me. Looking for Trinity Church records, now called Trinity United Church of Christ, (name change in the 1960's). The address is on 4th St. in LaSalle, IL. The congregation and current Pastor do not know what happened to the oldest record book. The Pastor of the congregation at the time has since died, but his daughter still resides in town, but the Pastor's family was asked and no record books were found in the Pastor's private library or belongings. Any Church record hunters in LaSalle area? Kay Diers
Hello I hope someone can help me with the names of the Catholic Churches in Peru, Il. during the middle and late 1800's. I am searching for information on my ggrandparents, CASPER AND MARGARETHA FREITAG, who lived in or around Peru at that time. Thank you. Jean Weber Nebraska JB4011@aol.com

Lucky you if you have Patrick Briscoe for an ancestor. In the 1860 Dayton Twp, LaSalle County census he was 48 and his wife Sarah was 30. The value of his real estate was $4,000 and personal was $350.00. (my ancestor was $50.00). Of course he was from Ireland. The children were: James, Francis, John, Mary, Rose and Daniel. I was hoping my ancestor worked on his farm. I am searching for information on the HAYSON family that lived in or around the Streator area, probably around 1865 or later. Also a John A. CARR, a mining engineer who married a Jane HAYSON who left Streator about 1869. He sold his holdings to the Vermillion Coal Co.. There was also a Mrs.. Frank HOLMES, also a HAYSON. Unfortunately this is all the information that I have on her. She was there in 1891. Any information would be appreciated, Thank you. Jack
