Hi Mary, Neither did I but I have been able to locate brothers, sisters and children with them. Also you might ask if they have any wills or probate on the people you are researching. They have the original copies (the court put everything on film) and they can copy this for you nominally as well. I have gotten names of cousins etc. that way with addresses. It is really fun. Hope this helps you. Sharon

Died in March 1900 in Peru, buried in St. Vincent's Cemetery. Where do I go to find an obituary? What newspaper(s) were published at that time? Thanks in advance.
If you don't get a response surely the current mayors's office could help. ---------- From: RONJOY@aol.com[SMTP:RONJOY@aol.com] Sent: Tuesday, July 06, 1999 10:23 AM To: ILLASALL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ILLASALL-L] mayor of oglesby Does any one know who was the mayor of Oglesby [Portland] during the years 1904-1908 and any hardcopy documentation about him thanks Ron ==== ILLASALL Mailing List ==== List problems? To Scott Heider Thank you very much for the information on Mission Press in Techny. The article was very imformative and I appreciate your help. Jean Weber Nebraska.
Hi Jean! I found the following information about Techny at http://www.svd.org/svdus.html : "The Society of the Divine Word (SVD) was founded in Steyl, Holland in 1875 by Blessed Arnold Janssen, a German diocesan priest. Janssen's dream was to create a missionary training center and, within four years, the first Divine Word Missionaries were sent to China. Twenty years later, Janssen dispatched Brother Wendelin Meyer, SVD to the United States. He arrived in Hoboken, NJ in 1895. Within a year, more Divine Word Missionaries were sent to the United States. They eventually settled about 35 miles north of Chicago, in what is now known as Techny, Illinois. In 1909, encouraged by successful recruiting efforts, the Society opened St. Mary's Mission Seminary at Techny, the first seminary established in the U.S. primarily to train men for the foreign missions. In 1923, the SVDs opened St. Augustine Seminary in Bay St. Louis, MS to provide African American men with the opportunity to become priests and brothers. SVDs minister among African Americans in the U.S. and in the Caribbean in 48 parishes. The Society also ministers among Vietnamese who are part of our new immigrant Church and among Hispanics who comprise the most rapidly growing Catholic population in the U.S." --- end of quote --- I would strongly suspect that the card was printed by SVD's Mission Press in Techny and ordered through the mortuary in Kansas. Hope this answers all of your Techny questions. Scott Heider Kansas City, MO (formerly of Streator, IL) P.S. BTW, my maternal grandmother's maiden name is Weber. She was born in 1911 near Lostant, which is approx 12 miles south of Peru. Searching for any descendants of DENER who may read this website. I am a member of the DENER family and am searching for the few of us that may be left. The LaSalle County family member is listed as DEBORAH C. DENER and would have been born 1850-1860's. I would like to share whatever information I have with anyone with information about this person. Thank you Gail Dener Baltimore, MD
Hello I hope someone on this list can help me. I have a death card with picture of my gg Grandmother. It has the following: MISSION PRESS S.V. D., TECHNY, ILL. Where is this town located? Are they still in business? My gg Grandmother was married in Peru and moved to Kansas and died there in 1921. Hi Karen, I do believe you are my cousin. But... on the Freise side. I am dabbling in genealogy myself and have met one of my mother's cousins by mail and on line. I belong to the LaSalle Co Genealogy group, and have found them a good resource. Were the Nelsons in Ottawa in 1880? Write me back at Kajoga@aol.com, I'd like to hear how you're doing. There was a James Price who married an Elizabeth Hillier. Elizabeth was living as late as 1947 - she was known as Aunt Lizzie by a lady that now lives in Frostburg, MD. Does anything like this jive with your family? I began this search as a result of finding a newspaper story about a silver/lead mine in WV. Seems a man called "Uncle Jimmy" Jones went from Streator, Il back to his old haunts of Cumberland, MD. He purchased land in Hampshire Co., WV (abt 1895) and sold shares in a chartered mining company. Shareholders were named Williams, Hillier, Price, Busch and McAlister - all these families seem to be interconnected. I know that Daniel Williams was from Wales. My grt-grandfather James Wm. Nelson along with a man named Windle ( relative of Nelson's) were hired to oversee the mine. James Wm. Nelson and his young family relocated to Streator, IL abt 1882 or so. My grandfather and father will also born in the Streator area. ---------- From: pearl sinanian[SMTP:grandma_ps@webtv.net] Sent: Wednesday, June 30, 1999 3:43 PM To: ILLASALL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ILLASALL-L] Search Hillier I'm new and not sure how to go about this but here I go.
