Hi, gang. I am looking for any connection to my great grandparents. They are listed in the 1920 Census as: John Weir, age 36, born in Illinois and married to Bertha, age 34, born in Germany, (NR-what does that mean-NR). They had two sons, Howard, age 11 and Arthur, age 7. If anyone can help, I surely appreciate it. Any suggestions? Thanks, Laura
I am doing research in Peru and LaSalle on these families. BURRILL HEATH MASON TREGAY TRESTRAIL Alice Fluegge aliceflu@msn.com.
I am trying to research the Samuel GORDON and Susan McDOWELL family from LaSalle County. I know that they had at least 11 children, one of which was my Ggrandfather, Francis Marion Gordon, who was born in Utica on 28 MAR 1875. Samuel Gordon was born on 22 FEB 1837 in PA. I have no idea in which county Samuel was born, nor who his parents were. Does anyone have any information on these people? Susan McDOWELL (Gordon) was born to James McDowell and Eliza Daniels on 22 JUN 1837 in Stark Co,OH. I have lots of information on the family of Susan's father, James McDowell. However, I have nothing on the lineage of her mother, Eliza Daniels. Does ANYONE have any information on the parentage of Samuel Gordon??? Or on Eliza Daniels?
Three SNELL siblings married three MOREHEAD siblings in Clermont Co OH. They all moved to LaSalle Co IL by Civil War days. Two Snell families and one Morehead family. We are slowly locating descendants of these families. The most recent resident I have a record for in Martin Frances Snell who died in 1952. The Morehead family lost three sons in the Civil War, burial in Vermilion Cem. A second connection is the Cruickshank family, originally from Scotland, but they moved to LaSalle Co from Ontario Canada to be near old neighbors from Scotland. The first news they heard after arrival was that the president had been killed. (Lincoln). In mid 1880s they moved again, and settled in Iowa. Our Stevenson cousins remain in the area as Catharine Cruickshank married Thomas Stevenson. Any help with records or any connections to the families is most welcome. Virginia

Here.. Hi all, I have listed on the 1880 soundex, John and Margaret Begley (44 and Irish) and their children, James 16, Mary E. 14, Katie 11, Margaret 9 and "(l) one Bo". I am still trying to confirm that this is my family as my great grandfather John who would have been 6 in 1880 is not listed on the soundex. I have the Lasalle census coming to take a look at it, but until then, if anyone has any information on this Begley branch who the Illinois research Dept says that John and his brother James emigrated to LaSalle from Ireland in 1860..................I would love the help. It is tough researching from Oregon! Thanks, Juli leonard@rio.com

Like Mary Murphy, I too am a novice at this. I am planning a trip to LaSalle Co. in a couple of weeks, however, and would also like to make the most of it. My intent is to attempt to locate birth, death, and naturalization records. In addition, I will attempt to locate obituary notices. I will also try to find gravesites. I know many of my ancestors are buried in St. Columba Cemetary, and have even located a deed to a cemetary lot there, where I believe the primary ancestor I am searching is buried. I had planned to search these records at the courthouse and library (obituary notices). Ir sounds as though the genealogy society would be a better bet. Is that correct? Are these offices located in Ottawa? Does anyone have any additional advice to make my trip more fruitful? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you Mary Beebe dc:
Hi Mary, I probably sound like a broken record regarding the Guild but from my experience I have received alot of data at low cost from them. Always remember there is only one person who does all the research though and it can take some time to receive whatever you are looking for. I have ordered death cert. from the courthouse and they were $7.00 certified. As far as cemetery records, again the guild has many computerized and when I was there in May they even gave me a map of the cemetery so I would know where to look. They can even give you grave locations in many instances. Recently I wanted a copy of some conseratorship papers of the 1950's and wrote to the courthouse. My response was $40.00. I felt that very high and if the guild has it they will copy it for a small charge plus shipping and I would save alot. The guild is only open on Saturdays and Mondays but the Courthouse is open on weekdays, there is also two court houses for different records. It is always best to call for hours. There is also the Historical Society in Utica, that may be of help also. This is just my experience, I hope that it can help others. Sharon
I will join in too! I'm searching for my father's family. James Louis FORD was born in Peru in 1908 to James H. FORD and Emma PINN. I sent for a birth certificate from the courthouse, but the information was 'sparse' at best. Just that he was born and his father was James H. Ford and his mother was Emma P. A lot of good that did. I found out my grandmother's maiden name from the copy of the Social Security application that I have. I do have a funeral card for his father that says James H. was born on 17-July-1871 and died on 5-Nov-1950. I am planning a trip to Illinois in the next couple of weeks and hope to get to Peru one of the days that I am up there. My grandparents are buried in unmarked graves at the Peru City Cemetery, per my Aunt. Does the cemetery have any records that would be helpful to me? Also, I take it that it would be better to go to the Gen. guild in Ottawa rather than the courthouse to see if I can find anything. Is this generally true? What can I expect to find at the Guild? I'm specifically looking for my Grandparents birth and marriage records, and any records of siblings. I am a rank novice at this and have never searched records before, would there be someone who could help answer questions? Somehow I think there will be a lot of them...... Martha (Ford) Murphy Campbell TX
Hi Julie, In the La Salle Gen. Guild Surname Index there are three people researching your Begley/Bagley line. You might try contacting them online for the snail mail addresses of these researchers. It is a free service. I also found a Begley in the 1892 Plat Book for a John Begley in Wallace Twp Section 10. Hope this helps. Sharon
Hello: My only Lasalle County name is Richmond. Josiah and Amy and children were there in the 1870 census I think. Probably moved from Marshall Co. WV ca. civil war. Think brother William may also have been there with wife Nancy. A Dakan (A.P.? Preston? O.B.?) may have died there in the 1870's. Any info appreciated. Maureen
I would like to share data with anyone researching these two immigrant Irish families. Patrick LYNCH , 1806 wife Catharine HARVEY LYNCH , 1804 arrived in NY about 1850/51, with a family of as least six children, Michael, Julia, Mary, Catharine, Martin & Patrick, where they remained about three years, before coming to Fulton County. Michael LYNCH married and raised a large family in Canton, Fulton Co. Julia LYNCH m. Sylvester WATERS, also b Ireland, in 1853, they removed to Utica, LaSalle Co. where they both died after raising a large family. Thanks Kate
