    3. Hi, Barnes & Nobel had a book for sale by Alan D. Gaff, "On ? Bloody Soil." The sub title was Four Years with the Iron Brigade. Mentioned Co. B of the 19th INDIANA Infantry. Wasn't Mrs. Bean from Indiana? Might try a google search for "Iron Brigade Association". Don't know if they are still in existence. 3. The Streator Public Library has the Streator newspapers on microfilm. They charge $1.00 per microfilm copy plus postage. (Don't know if they charge for a search.) The name of the paper changed several times, I believe this is the Streator Daily Free Press. There is an index for the Weekly and Daily Free Press for the years 1873 - 1935. The Monitor, another paper, was indexed for the year 1872. He was reared in his native country and there married Mary Farlow, a native of County Terhune, Ireland. Her ancestors were seceding Scotch Presbyterians who colonized the north of Ireland during one of the wars of their native country. In 1845 Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery came to America and lived several years in pennsylvania. In 1855 they came to Illinois and lived in Peoria County till 1867, when they moved to La Salle County and settled where they now live. The have had a family of ten children, but three of whom are living---William T., of Kansas; John E., of Prairie City, Iowa; and Robert, of California. Of the seven who have died three met with peculiarly distressing deaths. One son was burned to death; a daughter was killed by the kick of a pet colt, when thirteen years of age; and another daughter, Lucinda, the wife of William Church, was killed by the accidental discharge of a sky-rocket, July 4, 1885. She left a family of three children who find a home with their grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery are members of the Methodist Episcopal church, and ar conscientious, industrious members of society. Joanie --------------2E23894DED77412A65E9C802--

    3. Greetings from Streator, Lucinda Montgomery, daughter of William and Mary (Farlow) Montgomery, and wife of William Church. ...from Streator Daily Free Press Thursday, July 9, 1985 ---About the usual number of Fourth of July accidents by fire,, explosives, etc., have been recorded for the 109th anniversary of American Independence. But perhaps this saddest event is yet to be reconted, which is the death of MRs. Wm. Church, of Dana. She accompanied by her husband and children, drove to the aforesaid village to witness the fire works to be displayed on the evening of the Fourth. While the proper parties were engaged in discharging some of the fire works, one of the spectators, a thoughtless bumpkin, placed one of the large rockets in a position pointing downward and toward the crowd. Fire from an exploding rocket was communicated to it causing its discharge, striking Mrs. Wm. Church in the back of the head, felling here to the ground. She was taken to a drug store near by, and every effort made to restore her to consciousness. She remained in a state of coma until Sunday morning, when she became conscious and asked for her children. From that time she continued to sink, and died at noon on Sunday. To mourn her untimely death she leaves a husband and a family of small children. She was about 32 years of age.---Ottawa Journal.

She was married for 31 years and had 8 children, 5 of which are still living. She was born in Norway as were both of her parents. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1870 and has been in the U.S. for 30 years. Her citizenship status is unknown ("Al" was struck through and "Un" was written above it as were most of the entries on this page). She could not read or write English but could speak English. Note: This entry did not indicate that she was widowed at this time. Although no "Wd"'s were found on this page, other pages in this enumeration by this enumerator did indicate some people as "Wd" rather than "S" or "M". 2. Would anyone on the list have access to this census image? I've been looking for my great grandmother for years and a relative just found her, under her maiden name, on the 1900 census index.  She found "Anna Johnson b. 25 January 1832 Norway, age 68 yrs., alien, LaSalle County, Ottawa Township, LaSalle County Asylum inmate."  I would hope that the actual census image would give the date of immigration.  The census index said Vol. 109 E D 139 sheet 1 line 31. Since she was admitted under her maiden name (she was married to Lars Pearson, who preceded her in death), I am thinking that she may have been admitted by a sibling named Johnson who may have lived in the area.  If the dates of immigration were the same, it could point me to her family. Also wondering if anyone knows if there are any LaSalle County Asylum records in existence. I checked the State Archives database and didn't see anything. This lady has been a mystery to me for over 30 years and any help would be greatly appreciated. Joan in Illinois

    3. Dick, Thank you. I doubt if she was. (Priscilla) Pearl Patterson was from Indiana and it's still a mystery to me how she met her husband, Warren Ross Bean of Streator (1870-1945). As far as I know none of the other Pattersons from our family went to Illinois for anything other than to visit Pearl and her husband. Mr. Bean was once the publisher of the Daily Monitor in Streator. They had two daughters, Mrs. Yolanda Gould (Chicago) and Mrs. Pearl Kinson of Eureka. It would be the descendants of these two girls I'd be looking for and those same descendants would be my second cousins. There may have been a grandson for Pearl and Warren - not sure. There is a Robert Warren Blake buried with them: 8 Nov, 1915 - 28 Mar, 1939. I don't know who this is but he is apparently family some way. If anyone can connect to him and enlighten me, it might help the whole picture.
