    3. Only a guess , but have you tried the town Staunton, Macoupin Co, ILL? Your Lucy is listed in Harristown, Macon Co,ILL on 1880 c. Your John GEHM is listed in Pana, Christian CO, ILL on 1880 c. This is true S of Harristown ; almost the same distance that Pana is from Staunton. Also your John's parents are listed as Gertrude wid born in Prussia and husand born in Germany. It might have be misunderstood exactly what the name of town was??????? Check it out. no I'm not kin just trying to help your search. jaw ---- Original Message ----- From: Ms. Dale Amann <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, March 08, 2003 5:08 PM Subject: [ILLASALLE] Looking for a town > I just received a marriage certificate for John GEHM and Lucy TRAUGHBER, who were married in Macon, IL. 3. Good Afternoon, How about Lostant? There was a Nicholas Gehm(50) and his family living in Hope Township - Lostant in the 1880 Census. Also, in the 1880 Census William Gehm(42?) father in law, living with John and Katherine Keegan family in Peru "Ms. Dale Amann" wrote: > > I just received a marriage certificate for John GEHM and Lucy TRAUGHBER, who were married in Macon, IL. 1. [ILLASALLE] Nellie McGrath Rice Gretencord
    2. Hi Joanie, I now know that Nellie McGrath Rice married Arthur Gretencord in 1914, under the name of Nellie McGrath. In Minnie Rice's obituary which you sent me, it said that Opal Rice, her grandson, had made his home with Minnie since the death of his mother (Nellie) about four years earlier. That would be 1927 or 28. Is there some kind of index for the newspaper obituaries? I looked for Nellie Gretencord in the Illinois Death index, but couldn't find a record for her. Yet it appears that the Gretencord family lived around Grand Ridge beyond that time, and Arthur Gretencord is in the SS death index as having died in Feb. of 1979 and his last residence was in Grand Ridge, LaSalle Co. So it appears likely that she would have died in LaSalle County. Thanks for any help. Joy

I'm researching the Just family that lived in LaSalle/Peru. Just curious. >> Hi Karen! I married into a Just family in west central Minnesota. They were in the Lac Qui Parle and Yellow Medicine counties. The first Just in this family, Christoph Just, came to New York from Schneidemuehl, Germany (formerly Prussia, now Poland), in 1885 with his son, Christoph Just. They came to "Walnut," Illinois where two daughters lived who had emigrated some years earlier to Wisconsin (still unknown location), married, and then moved to Illinois. The senior Christoph Just died probably about 1895 when the junior Christoph Just left Illinois and went to Minnesota where he lived with a cousin, whose last name was Bohn. We have the details of most of this, and I and two other researchers have pulled together enough information so that one of the other researchers has a fairly large collection of individuals (maybe around 1,500). The other two researchers still live in Minnesota. An amazing thing is that a descendant of the only Just son to stay on the old family farm in Prussia was able to re-establish contact with the American branch. He lives in Berne, Switzerland, and his family escaped from that Schneidemuehl area just after WWII when he was just a boy. One of the descendants served in the German army in WWII and was killed. Most of the descendants were very poor during the war and for some years after the war. I have noted that there was a Just family at Lee County, adjacent to LaSalle County. If you go to the Lee County Genealogical Society site at http://www.rootsweb.com, selecting Illinois for the state, and Lee for the county, they have some indexes there that you can search for Just. I have never known if there was a connection, but it's hard to think that there wasn't some connection (cousin, uncle) given the way family groups tended to emigrate in patterns. There was a Jacob Just in the death records at the library at Princeton, Illinois, and I spoke with them on the telephone several years ago but they did not follow through on their promise to send me the entry. I think he died in the 1860s. This was in Bureau County where the two Christoph Justs settled. I believe that the senior Christoph was buried at New Bedford, but we are still on the hunt for that. If you want to be in touch with the guy from the current young-adult generation who has the most records (we two senior researchers shared our data with him to help expedite the search at a time when he had 300-400 individuals), let me know. What is your connection to the Just at La Salle County? Adele Just/Seattle

    3. Greetings from Streator, According to the Genealogy Guild's Riverview Book, Peter Gray is buried in Block 13, Row 1, with Elizabeth. Elizabeth 1844 - abt 19 April 1919 Peter 1839 - abt 19 Jan. 1934 I am kind of backed up right now, so it would probably be faster to contact the Streator Public Library on South Park Street. They charge $1.00 for microfilm copies, plus postage and handling. The 1902-1903 Streator City Directory lists, "Gray Peter F, wf Elizabeth, driver Seipp Brew Co, r 212 e Broadway." Jessie C. Voorhees is buried in Block 16, Row 26 with her husband and son? John Gray. The date of death is about 28th of April 1977. Among the Voorhees buried in Row 28 is Anna M. Feb. 9, 1835 - July 14, 1915 and Jacob Skillman Voorhees Sept. 30, 1831 - Sept. 13, 1907. Row 27 has a large Voorhees stone. Jessie died at age 102 in April 1977 in Streator. I have an obituary for Jessie' s father Peter GRAY who died at age 95 in Streator at the VOORHEES home in 1934. Are there any death or obituary indexes available locally? I have not done any research in LaSalle County or Streator so would welcome any suggestions for research at a distance. Thank you so much. 3. Thank you, Joan. Yes, from Muncie. It was her father who was in the famous 19th Indiana with the Iron Brigade. There are several really good books on that subject, at least one with excerpts of her father's, Robert I. Patterson. I understand there is an Honorary Iron Brigade (not sure about the name) to which she was accorded membership because of her father. Mike and I are interested in finding out if that organization or one called (possibly) Sons of the GAR. Mrs. Pearl Bean was our great aunt. Her grandfather died of complications from an injury received in the Civil War - Samuel R. Patterson, RI's father. ----- Original Message ----- From: Joan To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, March 04, 2003 2:06 PM Subject: Re: [ILLASALLE] Iron Brigade Hi, Barnes & Nobel had a book for sale by Alan D.
