    3. > Surnames: ALBERTS, ALBERT, BOWMAN, AND BOWMAN > I would like to like to locate an Obituary and the burial location for William ALBERTS, my gggrandfather. He and his family resided in Eagle Township, LaSalle County Illinois. Their farm was on Section 12, Twp 31, Rge 2. He died on September 1, 1850 according to his probate papers. His religious affilitation was with the Lutheran Church in Ostfriesland. The legal notices for his estate appeared in the Ottawa Free Trader, a weekly newspaper. Can someone tell me if there was a Lutheran Church and Cemetery near their residence in Eagle Township that would have been in existence in 1850. William's wife's name was Gebke and his children's names were Jacob, Janna or Johanna, Gebke, Wilmke, Anke or Anna, and Frederick or John. William's wife later married William BAUMANN or BOWMAN and resided in Nebraska Township, Livingston County. > > Thank You > > Rod Van Horn in North Dakota

    1. Re: [ILLASALLE] cemeteries
    2. Thanks to all those listers who answered my query about cemeteries. Kind of sounds like California - depends on how old the cemetery is and who is administering it. Perpetual care cemeteries usually have very good records, but others sure do not. Joy

    2. Joy, If you can surmise which cemetery she may be buried at, they may very well still have the records. I sent to St. Vincent's Cemetery for burial records, and although it is now run by a management company, they had records back to about 1870, and sent me a prompt reply with the records I had requested. It's probably worth a try. Regards, Susan Dobson

    3. Hi, RE: Cemeteries Old St. Stephen's cemetery in Streator was the Slovak Catholic cemetery until 1940. The only records are the tombstone records done by the Guild. This is the cemetery for the oldest Slovak Catholic church in the US, and they use the Guild's list. One of my relatives put in a stone a few years ago. She could not find exactly where her relative was buried, so, she put the marker by the fence where someone thought the grave was. St. Anthony's in Streator seems to be fairly accurate. Or else, I have been lucky and found every grave that I looked for. Even Riverview had a few recent years missing, until the Guild published that cemetery. All depends on the person in charge. The Hart's are doing a great job. Riverview and St. Mary's. I have a 10 page obituary list from the Streator paper covering the years 1872 - 1900. The obituaries say the people were buried in Riverview, Riverside or Catholic cemetery. We can't find the graves. Sometimes Riverside meant Riverview, sometimes it meant St. Mary's. We even have later obituaries that stated Riverview and still cannot find them in the records. Lostlands. This cemetery is difficult. You may know that you have the correct stone, but the death year on the stone is off by a year or two from the obituary year. And, it is not just one section or one family. And, it is always just a year or two off, so close... Thanks to everybody for letting me vent my frustrations, have to get back to my obituary list. As a lady told me regarding Old St. Stephen's: "Well, everybody knows where their family is buried." Joanie [email protected] wrote: > > Hi Joanie, > > Thanks for the Gretencord information. 3. am searching in LaSalle County Illinois, for traces of my ancestors. Looking for anything on my great grandfather Earnest Wagner who came from Germany and married my g-gm Elizabeth Gagel, Oct. 29, 1874., in Ottawa. However, when I found a copy of their marriage license amidst some family papers, I also found a copy of a marriage license for William Schobert and Miss Ellen Anderson. They were married April 1, 1878, in Ottawa, by jp Arthur Lockwood. I do not know the connection between these folks and my g-gparents. Wondering if anyone is related to them and would like a copy of marriage license. Perhaps they can shed some light on the family connection. _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: advanced junk mail protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail

    3. I can answer for a few cemeteries. Found out that my grandmother was indeed in the family lot....no marker. Cemetery records revealed the presence of two unmarked graves in the lot. I would guess only the sloppiest cemetery wouldn't have records of burials. [email protected] wrote: > Hi Joanie, > > Thanks for the Gretencord information. 3. I think in the last 40 or so years cemeteries had to keep a list of those buried there but before that time there is no such requirement. Some kept lists and some didn't. Over the years the lists were lost especially in the smaller cemeteries. The larger ones kept better records. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, March 11, 2003 10:40 AM Subject: Re: [ILLASALLE] Nellie McGrath Rice Gretencord > Hi Joanie, > > Thanks for the Gretencord information. 1. [ILLASALLE] Correction: Nellie McGrath Rice SCHULTZ!
    2. Hi Joanie, I went down to the FHC to look at the 1920 census, and lo and behold, found Nellie Schultz, not Nellie Gretencord. Evidently the Nellie who married him was not my Nellie. Anyway, I now have a death date for Nellie McGrath Rice Schultz. She is in the Illinois death index - died in Streator on May 17, 1926. Could you find an obituary for her perhaps. Many thanks. Joy

    2. Hi Joanie, Thanks for the Gretencord information. The mystery of what happened to Nellie deepens. I have a question for which someone on the list may have an answer. If someone is buried without a marker in a LaSalle cemetery, is there a supervising county department for cemeteries, or are cemeteries regulated by the state. And do you know if cemeteries are required to keep a list of those buried, even if there is no marker? Thanks for any help. Joy in Calif.

A tackle that was used in letting the machine down from the flat car upon which it was loaded gave way in some manner and the machine, which was exceptionally heavy was given such a momentum that James Redman, who was guiding it with the tounge, was thrown to the ground. His arm was caught in the front wheel and before he could get out of the way the wheel was upon his head, where it stopped. It was necessary for the men to move the machine before he could be released. His skull was badly crushed and he died about fifteen minutes afterwards. The accident was witnessed by William Redman, his brother, and Roy Gill, but it was done so quickly that neither could do anything in time to save Redman¹s life. Dr. A. G. Millard was summoned and arrived a few minutes after Redman died. An inquest was held Friday afternoon and a verdict given in accordance with the facts. James Redman had been a resident of the vacinity of Grand Ridge a greater portion of his life, and this Spring he purchased a home in the village and was preparing to move into it and retire to private life. He leaves surviving him his wife and five children, all living in the vacinity of Grand Ridge. ------------------------------------------- Edith: Illinois State Board of Health date of marriage place of birth (La Salle Co) parents names: George Kime Nancy Tole (sp?) 7 Mar 1919 Friends in Grand Ridge where shocked to learn of the death of Mrs. Edith Redman at her home in Streator on Wednesday. 3. Hi Bill, I always thought Kimes was a unique name. Just wanted you to know that I knew a family of Kimes who lived north of Osceola (Clarke or Madison Cos) as I grew up there. Their son, Gary married my dear girlfriend, V, and now div. Gary Kimes was appointed county attorney in Clarke. Then, he was appointed Judge for south central Iowa. He is a real success story. Osceola was on the Mormon Trail out of Nauvoo drawing people out of central IL. This is a thought.
