    1. [ILLASALLE] Biographies from History of La Salle County Book
    2. I found the following bio for my ancestor Allen McDonell in a book The History of La Salle County, Illinois: together with scetches of its cities, villages and towns, educational, religious, civil, military, and political history, portraits of prominent persons and biographies... published in 1886, which I accessed on-line through my (Oregon State) library. If you think your ancestor might be listed here, let me know and I will look it up (This is a very slow process on my computer so please be patient). I would need the township and the individuals name. If anyone has more information on anyone listed in this bio, I would love to hear from you. Biography from History of La Salle County, Illinois: Allen McDonell, deceased, was born in Invernesshire, Scotland, in 1825, and came to the United States in 1848, locating in Peoria County, Ill., where he was married in 1849 to Mary Taylor, a native of Shropshire, England, born in 1827, daughter of Wiliam Taylor. She came with her parents to America in 1849, and located in Peoria County, where her father died the following year. Mr. McDonell lived in Peoria County till 1864, when with his wife he went to Scotland and remained a year. Upon his return to America, he settled in Osage Township, LaSalle County, where, with the assistance of his sons he improved a valuable farm. He died May 1, 1876, leaving behind him a good name and a memory cherished by all who knew his sterling qualities. The mother with her six children, Donald, Duncan, Sarah, Ronald, John, and Agnes, lives on the old homestead, on section 11. the farm contains 400 acres of land and is located on sections 10, 11 and 23. 1. [ILLASALLE] Re: Looking for cousin Elaine, lost during WW II in Seneca
    2. My uncle, Frederick Charles Runyard, was killed in action on the Liberty ship, USS Paul Hamilton, sunk near the coast of Algiers in the Mediterranean Ocean on April 20, 1944. The ship was sunk by an aerial torpedo, and 504 men lost their lives. It was the greatest loss of lives caused by an American ship sinking during the 44 months of WW II Fred had a daughter, Elaine, in Seneca, Illinois, who was born before he left for Europe in the army, and after his death, our family lost contact. Mother of Elaine was Lois, and she is said to have very curly hair, perhaps red. We do not know if Fred and Lois were married. Elaine would have been born 1935 to 1941, and would be approximately 64 years old now. It is my assumption that she continued to live in the Seneca area, and perhaps graduated from the high school there, probably in the early to mid 1950's. Fred was from Winnebago, Illinois, and he met her mother Lois when he was working in the State Park for the CCC--he was building a bridge there just before the war. I never knew the existance of Elaine until this year, and she was probably adopted by a later person who perhaps married her mother Lois. Maybe she is unaware of her father, Fred Runyard. She would make a welcome addition to our family. I hope we find her before old age wins the battle... Thanks, David Jones, Pecatonica, Illinois

    1. [ILLASALLE] Godfreys/Putnams
    2. MARILYN GELLER
    3. Hello List I am trying to trace my Godfrey line in Earl (Earlville), LaSalle County, IL. I would like to try to find marriages of Godfreys to Putnams. The 1850 census shows them living next door to each other as Peter Putnam married Patience Godfrey, probably back in Jefferson, NY, and the two families traveled together, first to IL and then to MN. However, I hoping to trace an male Godfrey killed about 1865 leaving a widow, Catherine, and a young son, Thomas (my great grandfather). Later, a Henry White married Catherine and adopted Thomas, and the 1870 census shows them in Mitchell County, IA, Lincoln township. I lose them in the 1860 census and by 1870, they are living in Silver Creek, MN. Questions: How can I find a death index an/or transcriptions of cemeteries in Illinois for Earl, LaSalle County? And, how could I possibly find a marriage certificate for Henry and Catherine White or Catherine Godfrey and UNK Godfrey? As you can tell any HELP to get me going on the right track to connect these families in IL. Thanks so very much! Marilyn White Geller [email protected]

    1. [ILLASALLE] Pitts Family in La Salle County after 1860
    2. Elise Morris
    3. I'm looking for information about this La Salle family -- Hiram A Pitts invented and patented the threshing machine in1839 in Maine and moved to Chicago in 1851 and established H A Pitts In 185 Agricultural Machinery. At his death in1856, the company became H A Pitts Sons Mfg Co. At this time the company relocated to Marseilles, La Salle County. . The sons, Marcellus became president; Joseph L Pitts, president, later, Aurelius V., Vice Pres.; Florison D. Treasurer, wife Jennie. In 1881, Joseph's wife, Amanda (Alfreida) died in Kansas and in 1881 he married (2) Gentalina Rhines of Marseilles . Marcellus moved to Marseilles in1871 and married (3) Sophia Tisler of Ottowa about 1867. Since then I have not been able to find any record of any of these people. None are buried in the family plot in Rose Hills, Chicago where 12 other family members are buried between 1860 and 1959. I need help with death certificates, cemeteries, obits, other possble children or anything else pertaining to these people. In return I can do some lookups at the Los Angeles County Recorder's Office. 3. Greetings from Streator, Monsignor is pastor at Immaculate Conception. Really glad to have him here. Enjoy his sermons. I want to stop at the rectory and check out some of my elusive "Riverside" burials. IF I can get my data is some sort of order, I will give him a copy. Is Bridget Prendergast Quinn buried in Lostlands, died Dec. 3, 1885, and Michael 1826 - 1901, also buried in Lostlands. By the way, my cousin, Bob Seroka, married Isabelle Comisky, the daughter of Vincent and Mildred (Whalen) Comisky. Any relation? Bob just passed away in January. Izzy died several years ago in Florida and is buried in Lostlands. 2. Just a note for all of you searching your PRENDERGAST roots: Last summer, Father Prendergast celebrated Mass at the Eagle church. My extended family had chosen that Saturday to attend Mass at the place of our ancestors and it was quite a treat for us to meet him. He had just been assigned to a church in Streator, I think Immaculate Conception, after serving for many years as a military chaplain. He also introduced his mother, who still lives in the Eagle area, to the congregation (although the natives already knew her). We have a distant connection to the Prendergasts through the marriage of Bridget Mary Prendergast to Michael Quinn, the brother of Bridget Quinn who married James Comiskey. Anyway, Father Prendergast could be a good resource. Marcia

    3. Greetings from Streator, There is a record of a marriage between Cora E. Hastings and Anthony Pengergast on September 15, 1892 in Hancock County. Does anyone known the name of the cemetery in Hamilton, where she was buried? Is this Tony, the son of Michael and Bridget Prendergast, and brother of Sarah? Thanks, Joanie ...from Streator Daily Free Press Monday, June 22, 1895 MRS. TONY PRENDERGAST DEAD. A dispatch was received here at noon today from San Antonio, Texas, announcing the death at that place of Mrs. Tony Prendergast. The particulars were not given. Mrs. Prendergast was a victim of that dread disease, consumption, and last March she went to Texas in hope that a change of climate would prove beneficial, but the disease had too much hold on her and her death was only a question of time. Although her death was expected, yet the sad news was a severe shock to her many friends here. The deceased was a most estimable woman, about 25, years of age, and leaves a husband and one child, the latter about a year old, to mourn their great loss. It is not known whether the remains will be brought here for burial, or taken to the home of her parents near Keokuk. Mr. Prendergast will have the deep sympathy of the community in his hour of great bereavement. ...from Thursday, June 25, 1895 ---The remains of Mrs. Tony Prendergast were shipped from San Antonio, Texas, to Hamilton, Ill., where the interment is to take place.
