Hi, That is why we are called the Streatorland Historical Society. The Streator newspapers covered the news in Cornell, and west to Dwight. There are several people from Newtown and Sunbury Townships buried in St. Mary's cemetery, in Eagle Township. Were you the person requesting information about Brookers? I have been informed that "Livingston" was part of Lasalle Co in the past.
Thank you very much!!
I wasn't aware that you covered Dwight too. I have written to their Historical Society a couple of times & never received an answer. My gg-grandparents, David Griffith & Hannah Barnes Reeves-Griffith settled in Ransom but lived in Dwight in their later years. Their daughter Elvina married a man named Dr. Elias Weiler & they also lived in Dwight. There was an article in a newspaper that I've never been able to trace saying Hannah Griffith fell & broke her leg at their home. Also, David died at their home. I have been trying to find an obituary or even the article on David & Hannah would be helpful. Does anyone have any information on Dr. Elias Weiler? He didn't set Hannah's leg so I wonder if he was a physician? Thanks!
Hi Dick, The first page of the book had a group picture of the members of St. Bernard's church. Two Francis Corrigan's and a couple others were identified. There were about 10 Corrigan's in the index. But, I got busy, and did not have time to check out the pages. What are the first names of the family that you are looking for? I have to go to the museum and the library tomorrow (Monday). Hi Dick, Budd is in Sunbury Township, north of Rte 17, and a couple of miles east of Blackstone, and about 1/2 mile south of the county line. The Streator Public Library has a couple of books on Livingston Co., I'll see if the Corrigan's are mentioned. St. Bernard's the Catholic church in Budd was established about 1895. They used to joke about one of the pastor's, the Late Father ____. This beloved priest also had charge of the church in Cornell. Apparently he was NEVER on time. Not once. And he was not late by just a few minutes. Someone just brought in a family history book about an Irish family from that neck of the woods. I am going to the museum tomorrow, so I will check that book out for you. The Trainor and Clancy families also lived in that area. I am trying to locate relatives of the Corrigan family, who lived near Budd, Il, which I understand is South of Streator and may be as small a town as a grain elevator and may be a couple of houses. There were 6 brothers in the family, but I have been only able to locate 3 so far. I understand that at least 2 of the brothers relocated to Iowa and 1 moved to Streator---your help would be appreciated. Dick Corrigan Orland Park, Il [email protected]
It's funny you sent me this email. I just completed a request to the Streatorland Historical Society.......Thank you so much for responding. We are hoping to be able to visit Streator some time, hopefully this summer. Thanks again! Donna Cardascio
Greetings from Streator, The Streatorland Historical Society will do the lookups for you. They only charge 25 cents per page, but would appreciate an additional donation. The address is: Streatorland Historical Society 306 South Vermillion Street Streator, Illinois 61364 Joanie Donna Cardascio wrote: > > I am wondering if anyone could do a lookup for me in Streator, Illinois. Greetings from Streator, From the Junction of Rts. 17 and 23 go one mile south on Rt. 23 and turn west(right). It is one mile down that road. It is a nice, well kept cemetery. There is a fence, but the gate is not locked. Joanie [email protected] wrote: > > Would anybody know the address or farm the "Defenbaugh Cemetary" In > Livingston Co. Il is ? I am wondering if anyone could do a lookup for me in Streator, Illinois. I would like to have a listing of all Travelstead's in Streator from 1963-1969. I would appreciate any assistance. I am living in North Carolina and unable to do a lookup myself. Sincerely, Donna Cardascio
This is my family line that I am seeking information on. They came from Nedre Valheim, Norway. If anyone can help me with this family line I would appreciate it. Does anyone have any information on the Wingle Family. I think there was some discussion about them a few weeks ago but I didn't need it then. Annie Wingle married Timothy Madigan 15 Jan 1888 possibly in Champaign, IL. Anything appreciated. Sylvia

Might you know where the name WELLINGTON came from? My father was born in Streator (1919) and his middle name was WELLINGTON. I asked him once why and he didn't know! I found a small scrap of paper among my parents things - it was a letter written to my Grandma NELSON by an Annie Wolfe of Cumberland, MD - seeing WELLINGTON and WOLFE together set me wondering. Grandma Nelson died in 1926 - so, the letter was from an earlier date. The Nelson family left Cumberland, MD in the early 1880's so it's bet. +-1885-1926 on the letter.
