    3. Rhonda, I think SHAL refers to SKJOLD parish in the far northern part of Rogaland fylke (county) in SW Norway. Furthermore, STRØM (=STRAUM, in dialect) is a farmname in this area, and today it is in TYSVÆR municipality (kommune). You would pronounce SHAL much the same way as a Norwegian would pronounce SKJOLD. In the Passport records for the bailiff in Ryfylke District, Rogaland 1811-1859 I find Dam Halvorsen STRØM (23 years), from Skjold parish, who filed for a passport on May 4, 1858 to travel to North America. In the emigrant lists from Stavanger I find Dam HALVORSEN b. Jan 19, 1835 from ROMSELAND, SKJOLD who emigrates with his brother Sjur (=Sever/Sivert) in 1858. Interestingly, ROMSELAND is located next to the STRØM (Straum) farm. According to your info Sjur/Sivert must have returned to Norway. 1865 Census : SKJOLD Parish (Digitalarkivet = Digital Archives) Farm name: ROTTEN ( = a cotter's place under the ROMSELAND farm ) Halvard Damssøn Head / Cotter 57 m Skjolds p. Anne Marta Knutsd. His wife 54 f Skjolds p. Sjur Halvardssøn their son ug 22 m Skjolds p. ----- SJUR / SIVERT / SEVER Halvard Andrias Halvardss. their son ug 13 m Skjolds p. ----- ANDREW Marta Halvardsd. their daughter ug 29 k Skjolds p. ------ MARTHA Anne Marta Halvardsd. their daughter ug 20 k Skjolds p. ----- ANNA Marta Jakobsd. Wife's mother / resident widow 84 f Skjolds p. (ug = unmarried ) In the 1801 Census I find a widow named Martha Damsdatter (b.ca1731) at the STRØM farm, Skjold parish. This indicates a connection of the quite rare name Dam with the STRØM farm. It is possible that this Martha was Dam/Daniel's g-grandmother. In conclusion, I'm quite confident that Dam HALVORSEN (Halvardsøn) is same as the Daniel H. DANIELSON you're seeking. Also, all the names you mention show up in the family in the 1865 Census. His given name was Dam, and he changed it to Daniel in America. Finally, he adopted a surname similar to his father's patronym (DAMSON vs. DANIELSON). Hope this is of some help for your research. 3. Hello again. I'll do som echekking for you. First I want you to know that Shal is NOT a norwegian word. Do you know if it is in Valdres as the other Danielson you seeking for?. The farm is probarby Strom with a o with mark over prononced -ea- as in earl. It meens streaming and is a rahter normal norwegian farm name. As to the sister and brother, they are probarbly Andreas and Syvert in Norwegian. I wonder are they called Danielson or Hiaring? (Hiaring is a VERY strange name, could be Jaring) I'll get back to you. 2. HI Marte I wrote that like his obit said but i think that it was misspelled i think Strom in Shal could be Straum in Skjøld. I also think that Dam Holvardson and Daniel are the same Two men but i dont know how to prove it Daniel married a Sarah Jane Bass in 1865 in Iowa and had two children Rosa Anna and Flora Mae Danielson. Im not connected to the other Danielson Post. My Daniel Only Stayed in LaSalle County for 4 1/2 years. he worked there but i dont know at what maybe farming. he may have had land there but i dont know for sure thats why id like to find someone who could look there for me. AS i live in North Carolina and cant get there to look. Daniel's Head stone Says Daniel H Danielson but have found him as Daniel M Danielson on your Norway Cencus. also Someone else has him as Daniel S Danielson. But i Think the H may stand for Holvardson. but not sure. Anna Hiaring may be her Husbands last name . also my Daniel came to America in 1858 . Thank you again Rhonda

    2. Hi Joanie, Accidently just sent this letter to the Digest address. Hope it doesn't unsubscribe me ! You've probably given this information several times, but as an off and on subscriber, I'm uncertain. Is ILLASALL-list archived ? I'm researching the families of brothers John and Michael FERRITER who were residents of Ottawa in 1870. Some of the family are also mentionned as residents of Ottawa in the 1877 History of LaSalle Co. It appears, however, that John and most of his children may have left Ottawa before 1877. Would greatly appreciate it if someone would check the 1880 Ottawa census for any Ferriters living in Ottawa in 1880. Michael Ferriter appears to have died in Ottawa sometime after 1900. His wife Catherine died sometime previously. Does the Ottawa Historical Society have cemetery records that might provide their exact dates of death ? What other sorts of (ca. 1870-1910) records does the Ottawa Historical Society have that might provide additional info on these families ? Finally can anyone tell me the name and address of the Catholic Church in Ottawa with which Father Terry was affiliated ca. 1875 ? Joanne in Maine
