Dear Kat, The only Bauer listed in the book for Waukegan is an Adam Bauer, listed as a laborer. The family may have moved after the writing of the book, which was sometime prior to its publication in 1877. I don't know of any reprints of the book - perhaps others on the mailing list might know.
