I've "rescued" two old photographs, one identified as Bertha & Henry BRANDING which was taken at the W. W. Benedict Studio in Barrington, Illinois. The photograph was likely taken in the 1880's or 1890's with the couple in their 30's at the time it was taken. In addition to their names, someone has written "Emmett's parents" on the front of the photograph. The second photograph was also taken at the Benedict Studio in Barrington and is of two unidentified children. This second photograph was probably taken in the 1890's with the two children appearing to be 4-7 years old at the time. The oldest appears to be a boy and the youngest a girl. Based on limited research I was able to locate the family through census records as follows: 1900 census of Ela Township, IL: Henry BRANDING, age 33, born Mar 1866, married 8 years, born Germany, parents born Germany, to USA 1882, a Saloonkeeper Bertha BRANDING, wife, age 32, born May 1868, married 8 years, 2 children/2 living, born IL, parents born Germany Edward BRANDING, son, age 7, born July 1892, born IL, at School Emmet BRANDING, son, age 6, born Aug 1893, born IL, at School Petter MAST, boarder, age 49, born Aug 1850, born Holland, parents born Holland, to USA 1870, a Day Laborer 1910 census of Ela Township, IL: Henry BRANDING, age 45, married 19 years, born Germany, parents born Germany, to USA 1883 Bertha BRANDING, wife, age 41, married 19 years, 2 children/2 living, born IL, parents born Germany Emmett BRANDING, son, age 16, born IL 1920 census of Ela, IL: Henry BRANDING, age 54, to USA 1885, born Germany, parents born Germany, a Road Work Teamster Bertha BRANDING, wife, age 52, born IL, parents born Germany I am hoping to locate someone from this BRANDING Family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to their care.
