Dear Sherry, Jacob Montgomery was elected a Commissioner of Highways in the first election of the township of Waukegan in April of 1850. He was also a member, along with his unnamed wife and daughter, of the First Baptist Church as of 1846. First Lieutenant Caleb Montgomery of Company D 0f the 96th Infantry was born 1826, enlisted in the military on 9/6/1862, and died1/29/1863. Hope this helps
Thank you so much for your time and interest......I am adding this to the bit of info I have on Jacob Montgomery ( b abt 1794 in Ohio)....I can't understand why the membership in the Baptist church( 1846).. would just list Jacob ,wife, and a daughter....1850 census shows him with second wife Polly Swain ( Married 19 Sept 1849) son Benjamin age 27, son Caleb age 24, son Jonathan age 20, son Calvin age 7.....I think he had two daughters one had already married... Celia Ann b abt 1822 in Ohio.. married Henry Paddock 13 July 1840....living in Waukegan in 1850 with three sons James S age 10, William H age 7, and Winfield H age 4....the second daughter Sarah married Robert Earl 13 Sept 1849...so she would of still been at home in 1846.... both girls married in Lake county.....any ideas why the boys would not of been listed in the church membership? Would there be any records of this church still around anywhere? The info you sent on Calib gives me something else to look for...He married Helen Thomas 7 Aug 1855 in Lake County...so I would like to see if they had children before he died in the military in 1863....... Also would really like to find a death record for Jacob's first wife ( Mother of all the children) sounds like she was still alive in 1846 and he remarried in Sept 1849...so that narrows the date to sometime between 1846- early 1849....maybe a birth record for Calvin the youngest son who was born in Illinois abt 1843 or could have been 1849... 1850 census is difficult to read the age could have been he was 7 or 1 in 1850... maybe this would have her name if available....which leaves the possibility that if it was 1849 his mother could of died in childbirth....any further info or direction in where to look for these answers would be so appreciated or would really love to connect with anyone else researching these people....thank you again ....Sherry in Texas VPeiler@aol.com wrote: Dear Sherry, Jacob Montgomery was elected a Commissioner of Highways in the first election of the township of Waukegan in April of 1850.
