My own Bown & Lockyer family members ended up in Macoupin and Madison, but a number of villagers in Middlezoy say they had family who emigrated to Lake County. I have started a web page recording the passage of some families from Somerset to Illinois. See it at http://dbown100.tripod.com/Illinois.htm If you would be willing to share details of your own familes passage to Lake County, please write to me at dbown100@hotmail.com, as I would like to include as many case studies as possible. It was only recently that I found out that my great uncle Albert Bown actually sailed from Liverpool to New York to end up at Alton Illinois, but I still don't know any details of the land route he took to get there.I am hoping my web page will help others by showing how other families made the long trek from Somerset.
