The Lake Co., IL Genealogical Society (LCIGS)has published a booklet titled: "Guide to Cemetery Names & Locations in Lake County, IL". The LCIGS has also published books on several of the cemeteries in the county which includes the names and dates found on cemetery stones and added information from additional sources (such as sexton records, obituaries & church records). By going to the LCIGS web site at http://www.rootsweb.com/~illcgs and then clicking on "publications" you can get to a list of the books available for sale. --- Lori Taylor-Blitz <loriblitz@sbcglobal.net> wrote: > Is there a Lake county Cemetery book? As far as I know I am not related to the Clarks but the John Clarke born in Leicestershire on 26 April 1844 is my GGG Grandfather on my mothers' mothers side. The date you have of 19 August 1905 for his death is correct but he died at the Mayo Clinic in Rocheter, MN but is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Floyd, Floyd County, IA. His wife as well as all five of his children are also buried there. Only two of the five ever married. I have photos of all their graves as well as obituaries and the actual memorial albums from the funerals of three of his children. I also have two or three death notices/obituaries of his father Samuel who is burried in Lake Zurich, IL.

Surnames: Clarke, Clark, Briggs, Gainer, Hall Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Sg.2ADI/1873.1 Message Board Post: Hello, I am related to the Clarkes through their marriage with Briggs and Briggs marriage with Gainers. I am also very interested in the Clark(s) due to the fact that they were early settlers of Ela Township and I am the president of the Ela Historical Society. Now, in regard to photographing the headstones, I will be happy to do so, however my camera is not working (everything blurry) so I will either fix it or buy a new one. We would be very interested in any information that you can provide on these families. Also, we have drawings (circa 1875?) of the John Clark farm that was adjacent to Farifield Cemetery and the Edward R. Clark farm which was on the south side of Lake Zurich. I assume that you descend from the John Clark that was born in Leicestershire, England 26 Apr 1844 and died 19 Aug 1905 in Floyd? The residence of John Clark that was on the farm that was adjacent to the Fairfield Cemetery is still standing. Although I am related distantly through marriage to both the Clark and Clarke families, I am not sure exactly how they are related to eachother as it seems to me that one family was from England and the other from Ireland. Well, any information you would like to exchange would be great and as I say, I would be happy to photo the graves once I have a working camera. Warm regards, Nancy
Hi Bill, Thanks for the replies. . . .Ralph Chittenden was the older of John Chittenden's sons, I'm descended from the youngest, George Chittenden. So I'm not too interested in following Ralph, although I've gathered some web information on him. I did have the link you gave for Miron and Pollys marriage and the Chittenden website, Thanks. Miron's daughter Sophia Burge referred to herself as a neice of the late Gov. Chittenden of Vermont. That Chittenden line is fairly well documented in a book by Talcott and my Miron isn't there, but the descendents of David Chiittenden aren't too well documented and we believe that was Miron's father. Unfortunatley the county courthouse there burned down in 1852 taking the vitals with it! So now I'm tracking obits and any other info on Miron that might mention his father's name. I'm thinking of seeing if I can interlibrary loan some of the newspapers for the places Miron lived and looking for info there. It would be an eye-killing exercise but seems to be the next stage. Thanks for your assistance, Lynn Hohler

I am located in Floyd county Iowa and would be glad to return the favor if anyone has ties to Floyd co. Thank You.

Hi, I'm trying to trace the Chittenden family of Lake co. Miron and his wife Polly, son John, and daughters Betsey, Sophia, and Emily came to Lake county before 1845 and settled on the north shore of Third lake, sometimes called Chittenden lake on the old maps. I've hit a brick wall on Miron's parents, and though I've found he and Polly's obits through the Waukegan Gazette, they didn't list any parents. Emily married James Druce, and died may 29, 1868, and is buried in Avon Centre with her father Miron Sophia married James Burge and she died July 31, 1885 and is buried in Avon Centre with her husband, next door to her father and sister Polly Chittenden died nov 14, 1871 and is buried in Warren twp at something called Whitmore. . .a puzzle to me but I'm currently speculating that it might have been a farm owned by a Whitmore family. Her son John lived in Warren twp at the time but he is buried in Waukegan at Oakwood with his wife and many of his children Betsey, daughter of Miron and Polly is missing. When Miron died his obit referred to 2 daughters with Sophia mentioned as living in Lake Co. I'm presuming Betsey had married and moved out of the county but an trying to track her down. If anyone has easy access to the old newspapers I would love to have the obits for: Sophia Bruge Emily Druce and their brother John Chittenden who died Sept 27, 1893 in the town of Warren thanks so much for any help, Lynn Chittenden Hohler

There was a Dietmeyer family that lived in Waukegan, IL on North Butrick Street between Brookside Ave. and Grand Ave. My father (born 1904) grew up in that area and I remember him talking about them. I remember meeting them and playing with their daughter, probably in the late 1940s or early 1950s. Sorry, I don't have any more information for you. I don't even remember their first names other than the daught was nicknamed DeeDee You might be able to find them in the US Census records. Jane Cote Wierschem
