The First Christian Church was located on Julian in Waukegan. A few years back it moved to Gages Lake Road in Gurnee. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Haroll STOLL which was taken at the Kennedy and Wallace Studio in Lincoln, Illinois. I believe the first name could well be "Harold" however I've included it exactly as it appears just in case it is actually an unusual spelling or ethnic version. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with the subject just an infant at the time it was taken. Based on limited research and thanks to a STOLL Family Researcher I believe that this may be a photograph of Harold H. STOLL son of Matthias STOLL Jr. and Alice JONES, Harold was b. 8 Jan 1893. His father Matthias was Mayor of Lincoln in the 1920's. His father died in 1936 and the obit listed Harold H. STOLL living in Libertyville, IL. The family can be traced through census records as follows: 1900 census of Lincoln, IL: Mathias STOLL, age 38, born Jan 1862, married 13 years, born IL, parents born Germany, a Cigar Manufacturer Allice STOLL, wife, age 34, born Dec 1866, married 13 years, 4 children/4 children, born IL, parents born NY Nettie STOLL, dau, age 13, born Apr 1887, born IL, at School Clyed STOLL, son, age 12, born May 1888, born IL, at School Lucile STOLL, dau, age 9, born Jan 1891, born IL, at School Harold STOLL, son, age 7, born Jan 1893, born IL, at School 1910 census of Lincoln, IL: Mathias STOLL, age 48, married 24 years, born IL, parents born Germany, Owns Cigar Store Alice STOLL, wife, age 44, married 24 years, 4 children/4 living, born IL, parents born IL Nettie STOLL, dau, age 23, born IL Clyde STOLL, son, age 21, born IL, a Court Recorder Lucile STOLL, dau, age 19, born IL, a School Teacher Harold STOLL, son, age 17, born IL 1920 census of Lincoln, IL: Mathias STOLL, age 58, born IL, parents born Germany, a Cigar Store Merchant Alice STOLL, wife, age 54, born USA, parents born USA Lucille STOLL, dau, age 28, born IL, a School Teacher I'm hoping to locate someone from this STOLL Family so that this wonderful old family treasure can be returned to the care of family. The majority of the farms were dairy, My grandfather was a dairy farmer, and he was famous as being the very last farmer in the county to use draft horses. I suppose nowadays we could consider this a conservation effort. In his case it was more of a sentimental issue. Another way that dairy farmers engaged in conservation efforts were rotation of crops, including rotating land as pasture, Yet another way was the use of manure as fertilizer. The Lake County Farm Bureau functioned as an educational resouce in this regard. The Farm Bureau was also something of a cultural institution since it organized events like Square Dances, not to mention the annual County Fair.

I am currently researching cultural programs and facilities in Chicagoland Counties for the Chicago Field Museum. My hope is to compile a list of programs and facilities that promote cultural understanding and education for a number of counties in Illinois. Currently, my research has led me to Lake County. I am curious if any of you are aware of any cultural programs ( i.e. heritage organizations, ethnic centers, etc.) that might fit the bill for my project. In addition, I am also interested in any environmental conservation societies in Lake County. As part of my project, I am very interested in how the environment and how people make use of their natural surroundings. Any help would be great. Thank You

I'm afraid I have nothing new on the Starovics. They were not church-goers and did not apply for citizenship, so when the paper trail got cold I started working on other lines. They will be on top of my list when I retire in a few years and can do more serious research. I'm saving a copy of your email in my "Maybe" file, so maybe we'll meet again. Do you know if John had any brother? The reason why I am asking is that I am trying to find out roots of my family's surname origin, possibly it would be somewhere in past Yugoslavia (Croatia probably), also I'd like to know if our families are somehow 'related'. Thank you Kind regards Jan Starovic jr.
