    3. When speaking of Ela, we are speaking of Ela Township, which is in the southern most part of Lake County. Lake Zurich is the main village in the township. --- GlowingGJG@aol.com wrote: > Can anyone tell me where Ela was in Lake county? > > > > ************************************** AOL now > offers free email to everyone. > Find out more about what's free from AOL at > http://www.aol.com. > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email > to ILLAKE-request@rootsweb.com with the word > 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and > the body of the message >

    1. Re: [ILLAKE] BRANDING Family Photograph
    2. Hello, Same note as previously sent to you on the other Ela families. The Ela Historical Society is giving a slide shiow on Sunday at the library. In this I am preparing a walk down Main Street and the Brandings are prominent in Ela history. Fred Branding and his wife have just opened a B&B on the lake. We would be happy to take custody of the pictures, offering them to the family, keeping in our records and digitalizing them. Thanks again for your interest. Let me know if you have no other claims and we will be glad to pick them up, if you wish. If you have no other direct requests, we would be happy to take custody of the pictures and make them available to the Berghorn family. If not claimed by the family, we will keep them on file and digitalize them as these are important early Ela families. Thanks for your interest in getting these to the right place! 1. [ILLAKE] BRANDING Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" two old photographs, one identified as Bertha & Henry BRANDING which was taken at the W. W. Benedict Studio in Barrington, Illinois. The photograph was likely taken in the 1880's or 1890's with the couple in their 30's at the time it was taken. In addition to their names, someone has written "Emmett's parents" on the front of the photograph. The second photograph was also taken at the Benedict Studio in Barrington and is of two unidentified children. This second photograph was probably taken in the 1890's with the two children appearing to be 4-7 years old at the time. The oldest appears to be a boy and the youngest a girl. Based on limited research I was able to locate the family through census records as follows: 1900 census of Ela Township, IL: Henry BRANDING, age 33, born Mar 1866, married 8 years, born Germany, parents born Germany, to USA 1882, a Saloonkeeper Bertha BRANDING, wife, age 32, born May 1868, married 8 years, 2 children/2 living, born IL, parents born Germany Edward BRANDING, son, age 7, born July 1892, born IL, at School Emmet BRANDING, son, age 6, born Aug 1893, born IL, at School Petter MAST, boarder, age 49, born Aug 1850, born Holland, parents born Holland, to USA 1870, a Day Laborer 1910 census of Ela Township, IL: Henry BRANDING, age 45, married 19 years, born Germany, parents born Germany, to USA 1883 Bertha BRANDING, wife, age 41, married 19 years, 2 children/2 living, born IL, parents born Germany Emmett BRANDING, son, age 16, born IL 1920 census of Ela, IL: Henry BRANDING, age 54, to USA 1885, born Germany, parents born Germany, a Road Work Teamster Bertha BRANDING, wife, age 52, born IL, parents born Germany I am hoping to locate someone from this BRANDING Family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

I'm getting there. I think in the Lakeside cemetery are my Gleason and Adams lines. I do have photos of their grave markers. Those 2 lines I have the info. It's the proof that George Washington Myrick was indeed born on 22 Aug 1818 in Unity, Maine. So many sites (LDS, Ancestry, and so on) say he was born then. Nothing in Unity's Vital Records..the first 8 children of Isaac Myrick are listed but not the last 3. I do have various census. 3. Your Wrote: Eunice in particular, goes back to Rebecca Towne Nurse, hung during the Salem Witch Trials, on 19 Jul 1692. I had no idea of Eunice Kenney family history--would love to hear more. Aaron is also one of my greats. You aren't going to believe this, but my old neighbor was a Nurse family. Had no idea when we were in Salem about this---Salem was too commercialized for me. The tourists were leading their dogs around with little witches hats. I did the Park Servie stuff and then found a wonderful library right next to it. I spent most of my time there and let the rest of the family go to the tourist traps. Actually Salem was a disappointment. Didn't know that I had family connection. Will look into it also. My daughter wants to go back to Boston and so do I so maybe the second time around Salem will be more interesting. Susie

    3. Susie, The way I have found the path to Rebecca Towne Nurse was when Ancestry.Com made it easy to go name to name, going backwards with each parent and finding results. Here's the way I found the path: Francis Nurse and Rebecca Towne Samuel Nurse and Mary Smith Rebecka Nurse and Jonathan Kenney (Kinne) Eunice Kenney and Aaron Gleason Henry Gleason and Hannah _______ Amasa Gleason and Aner Griffith Hiram Gleason and Caroline Farnham John Gleason and Frances Helen Myrick Florence A. Gleason and William B. Reilly Ruby E. Reilly and Charles R. Erbe Jr. James R. Erbe I haven't tried any Fed Census on Eunice..she died in 1792 so might be on the 1790 census. Aaron, I think, died in 1796 in Row, MA. Just been busy doing my Myrick lineage and haven't looked at the Gleasons. Jim

    3. Hi Lynn, I have read some on Mary Easty and the trials in Salem. Mary really tried to have the judges, especially Judge John Hathorne (I think the great-great grandfather or thereabouts to Nathaniel Hawthorne..Nathaniel added the "w" to his name) in April 1692 to re-think the accusations by the girls. She was released on May 18 only to be accussed by Mercy Lewis of torment. So Mary was back in jail in irons and hanged on Sept 22, 1692. This is taken from a biography written by Anne Austin. So guess, as you say, another cousin is found! Look at the history one can find via the internet. It all started with 2 notecards my mother wrote names of ancestors on..don't know where or how she got them. This was way before I started my searching. They had the Reilly, Gleason, Myrick names being listed in Illinois. Also some Myricks in Maine. With the internet (around 1998), I started my search on Ancestry and later on LDS. So much fun! Jim

    3. Jim, I think we have met so to speak---been in contact with AL and have posted on Terri's site--haven't been there recently as I just haven't had the time. Correct me if I am wrong. Still working on stuff I got in Massachuttes this summer. For Christmas my kids gave me the White book--so am in 7th heaven so to speak trying to connect all the dots. Did you see the blurb on TV about the cemetery that Dr. Pepper used to hide the treasure medallion. It's right off the Boston Commons and best I have figured, an infant David Gleason is buried there, right amongst the Great patriots of the Revolution Era. He is also noted as being the first child to have angles carved on tomb and not the usual skelton/crossbones. I haven't quite figured out exactly who he belongs to. Had to straddle Paul Revere's grave to try and read and look at his. In MA, you aren't suppose to touch the stones anymore. Found out that if you take a digital pic and then blow it up on computer it becomes more readable than you can see with naked eye. Took a little tour to Framingham and visited Gleason's pond and also a library in a little town where Thomas moved and was one of the founding fathers so to speak. Pic of church is posted on Terri's site. Al did it for me. Hoping to get to Lake Cnt;y this next summer and tour several other places in Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. 3. Susie, you are right. I am on Myfamily's Gleason site. I renew the site for Al and members now that Terry has passed away. Sounds like you are in 7th Heaven in the research and pictures taken in MA. I have the White CD..got that years ago when I think Larry mentioned it( a member of Myfamily). Haven't heard from him in years. I post replies to Al's writeups. He can really write about stuff! Along other lines, I have a CD of the vital records of Bridgewater, MA and one on North Yarmouth, Maine. In Massachusetts, I connect to Experience Mitchell who married Jane Cook. But my ancestors come from his 2nd wife, Mary. This lineage goes to my George Washington Myrick I have posted about. I have so many other ancestors it would take too much writing space. Just great to have the internet and Google to help in the search. But once found, then get the proof some way! Okay on getting to Lake County. I've had a lot of help from Lake County Clerk's Office, getting marriage, death certs on my Reilly (of Volo, IL) and John Gleason. I think Hiram Gleason is buried in Libertyville as well as my other ancestors. Catch you later, Jim
