Hello, Valerie, I saw your post and am, too, going to be presumptious in asking if you would please look for family names of Martin, Martins, Martens, and Wissinger in your book. I am quite happy to wait until you get the index for I have waited so long already. My gf, Robert Martin(s) gave Highland Park as his birth place and that's all I have. We all thank you for your help and caring. ===== Ann __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! Mail. http://personal.mail.yahoo.com/
Dear Jentami- I would be happy to look up the names for you if you will give me the township/city they were in. I haven't done lookups because I mean to get the printed index to the book and just haven't done it yet - and the book is really difficult to use without the index. Also, many of the listings are nothing more than a name and a township - which is fine to confirm a family was in Lake county but not much else. I want to say I saw that someone had reprints of it, but I don't remember where I saw it. I have an old copy. Please e-mail the information and I will get back to you. val peiler
Dear Pat, I don't know if you have this information yet, but in the Past and Present of Lake County (1877) there is an extensive (in relation to others in the book) listing for Emory Tower. Allanson; she was born in England in 1844, and came to America with her parents in 1849;her father (Thomas Allanson) and one brother died of cholerat at St. Louis Mo., while on their wasy to Lake Co. Mr. Tower's father, J.D. Tower died in 1866; his mother (whose maiden name was Persis Buckles) lives with him; have one child - Ethel M. Wm. W. purrr: The location of St. Mary's Cemetery has been answered by someone else. I assume you are going there to find the McGuire plot. A short way up the road into the cemetery the road divides around a large old tree, the McGuire plot is a short distance past this tree on the left. There is a large McGuire monument and individual stones in a rectangle. The large monument has the name spelled as Maguire, I think. If I remember correctly, Gramma's stone is on the short end of the rectangle nearest the road (the surname Titus is on her stone). There is a great view off the bluff out to the lake not far from their plot. Uncle Quin was buried there early in March 1944; he died 2 March 1944 at Camp Blanding, Florida. Keith and I stayed in the car at the cemetery as we were caught in the beginning of a blizzard and the wind was whipping off the lake. As I remember it, the weather was absolutely foul from the time we left Indiana until after the funeral. I have always been strongly affected when ever I hear "Taps" played; I heard it for the first time at St. Mary's Cemetery during that terribly windy, thick falling snow (we couldn't see out the car windows). Thanks for the offer of the photograph(s). I neglected to take photos when I went there in July 1996. Boy, was the weather different; hotter than blazes but a nice breeze off the lake. Sandy
I am curious about the cemetaries in Waukegan as many of my ancestors are buried there. I believe there was a cemetary located on the lake, perhaps on Sheridan Road, in Waukegan. There is a rumor that my mom's brother was buried there. Also rumored was that his parents received a letter many years ago that they should move his body as the cemetary was being moved. At the time they had no money, so supposedly his body was moved without their knowledge. Which cemetaries would have been the main burial place for members of Mother Of God Church, St. Stephen's on 22nd Place & Wolcott Ave, St. George on Ewing and Sacred Heart in Melrose Park. These were all Slovenian Parishes. Does anyone have the addresses of the cemetaries. Hi Ray, M.W.A. stands for Modern Woodmen of America. Camp, from what I can understand is much like I would suspect the legion here in Canada is. Each legion has a branch number. Each Camp number for the Modern Woodmen was diferent. I would think branch and camp would be more or less the same thing. -Brenda ----- Original Message ----- From: Raymond McCraren <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, April 01, 2001 3:26 PM Subject: [[ILLAKE]: ] Re: [[ILLAKE]: ] obituary lookup > Hi C Gaetz : To help me what is camp and what is M.
