Hello again, Does the name Clara HOWE ring bells with anyone please? She was born Clara PALMER in Waukegan in 1882. Her married name was HOWE. According to a family story from another descendant of the family, her grandfather used to 'joke' about being related to Clara HOWE nee PALMER. Was she famous or infamous for some reason? Does anyone know? My experience in researching since 1981 has taught me that all these family stories always have a grain of truth in them somewhere. Happy Hunting, Jean in Victoria, B.C. Canada.
Hello fellow researchers, >From some of the very interesting accounts and boigraphies I have been reading about the Civil War, many soldiers from Waukegan were involved in the battle at Chickamauga, some were killed and some were wounded. Can anyone tell me if there is an account of the battle anywhere on line please? Also, is there a site where I can order birth and death certificates for Illinois please? I am not sure of when Civil Registration came into effect in that State. Happy Hunting to one and all, Jean in Victoria, B.C. Canada.
