I am trying to figure out how to obtain naturalization records for Lake County residents from the mid to late 1800's. Both of these facilities claim to have naturalization records: National Archives Great Lakes Region, 7358 South Pulaski Road, Chicago http://www.nara.gov/regional/chicago.html Illinois State Archives (IRAD) Northen IL Region, Dekalb http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/irad/niumap.html However, when I called both of these archives, they said they don't have any naturalization records for Lake County, and I should call the Lake County Courthouse. Yet, when I called the Courthouse they say they do not have them either. Has anybody ever successfully done this before? Thanks, Tom Wagner
Thank you, I have looked at the Whitehead forum. My Whitehead family lived in Avon and Grayslake. They are buried somewhere in that area or Waukegan. Thank you for your help. Hi Jean, I don't remember seeing these two names. The cemetary is huge with a lot of winding roads, ponds, memorials, etc. I just stuck to the two sections where my relatives were buried and walked up and down the rows taking pictures. If you contact them they will search their records and send you the information. When I went in person they made photocopies of the burial records for me, and they have maps of the cemetary which they marked to make the search a little easier. I don't know off hand if Adrian would be related to Justin Loomis, tho it is very possible. Have you found Justin in the Loomis genealogy by any chance? I may be able to find him in the Loomis genealogy. Adrian is in there, but nothing on his wife and children as the book was done before that info was obtained I guess, for whatever reason. I'll see if I can find anything out on your Justin and let you know what find and if he is related to Adrian and how. I suspect they are distant cousins..... Robin
This isn't related to the Justin Loomis of Bennington, NY, early 1800's, is it? He married Polly Rolph, daughter of Rev. John Rolph. I have some information on his family but would like more. Thanks. Hi, I haven't posted in ages but I thought I would toss my Lake Co surname out there just in case anyone sees anything. I live in NY so can't take advantage of wandering cemeteries and such out there..I do it here tho. I have Adrian Loomis, born August 6, 1855 in Lebanon, NY and died May 20, 1946, location unknown but believed to be in or near Wauconda, Illinois. He married Adeline Phidelia Hitchcock in November 1876 probably in or near Smyrna, Chenango Co., NY. She was born July 1, 1858 in Smyrna, Chenango Co., NY and died September 10, 1900 in Wauconda, IL. I have a print out of her obit and it is from a paper by the name of the Independant Register dated September 21, 1900. There is Rockefeller on it and I believe that is a town? Both Addie and Adrian are buried in St Peter's Cemetery in Wauconda, row 17 section 2 as is their son Guy Ferris Loomis who died as an infant, not long after Addie died. They also had other children who lived in and around the area I believe. I can give info on them if someone is interested. I'd really like to find out more on these people and maybe find some descendants. The family lost touch with this part of our family some time ago and I'd like to find them again. Addie was my gr gr gr aunt........her brother George was my gr gr grandfather. Thanks! Robin
