Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Knox/833 Surname: Jones, Walkers ------------------------- Barb: Thanks so much for your response, the info, and the offer for more information and a picture! I'd love to take whatever you offer, either at e-mail dennis.tierney@att.net or I can send you my address. Melville and Mary's son, Charles, married Nellie Elkins 12/17/1889 in Knox County (source: the Illinois Regional Archives Depository at WIU, Macomb). One of their kids (they had 9) was my grandmother Bessie. I think Charles moved his family to the Chicago area in the 1910s or 1920s, something about union agitation that he was on the wrong side of, loaded up the family belongings on a street car from Joliet. I have a picture of Bessie at age 16, of Charles and his wife, Nellie Elkins at their 50th wedding anniversary. Charles and Nellie had kids Charles, Dan, Minnie, Bertha, Bessie ...sorry, records at hand dont have the rest, but I can get them if you are interested. Check out Familysearch.org for Walker history, if interested. My most recent search activity was spurred by Bessie's report that "her family" provided (gave? sold? exchanged for tuition?) some of the land at Knox College. Bessie died 7 years ago, so I can't ask for clarification; don't know if it was Jones or Elkins family -- recognize the story from the Jones side? In this quest, I called Knox College and spoke with an archivist who mentioned the book Knox County History, 1878, which has a piece on Conley Jones (farmer with 800 acres). She is sending me a photocopy of the biography. Would like to see the book to see if Walkers, Finks, Elkins, etc are mentioned. Please respond by e-mail. Thank you!
