I grew up near where they lived in Warren County IL very near to Knox County. John was a Civil War Veteran and his brother was killed by a sniper's bullet at the seige of Vicksburg. they both served in Sherman's Army. he was sick for many years after the war and Catherine wrote many letters to the government asking for assistance.
