    1. Re: Joel Starboard, Knox County, IL
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Starboard, Williams, Hersay, Annis Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/4g.2ADE/1608.1 Message Board Post: The information I have on Joel Starboard is taken from "Williams Wanderers" compiled by Mary Katherine Williams Barnard in June 1977 and written by Emma Gertrude Williams "Joel Starboard's grandfather, Henry Starboard, was born in Wales and came from Deskford, Scotland to America when he was twenty-eight years old and settled in Maine in 1734. Joel's grandmother Starboard was born in England and her name previous to marriage was Hersay. "We do not know the names of Joel Starboard's parents as they died when he was small. They were Americans and natives of Aroostook County, Maine. His mother died when he was four years old and his father died when he was ten years old. He then went to live with an aunt and she died soon after and he was left to shift for himself. However, he had a sister and two brothers--Martha, George and Henry. "His father was a carpenter, a cabinet maker, a fan light cutter and a painter. "Joel Starboard came from Maine to Galesburg, Illinois in 1842. He was a plowmaker, a shingle maker, and a maker of linseed oil. "Two years after coming to Galesburg, he married Miss Julia Ann Annis. After an 11 year residence in Galesburg, he purchased a farm on the prairie which was four miles south of the present site of Galva. The next year after he moved to the farm, a railroad was built through that country." Emma G. Williams was born 21 Jan 1878 and died May 7, 1951. Hope this helps with your search.
